Posting Guidelines

The answers to most questions about posting content to the AppleVis website can be found in the Help Section of this site. Please read this before submitting content, as it contains a number of important guidelines.

In particular, we would strongly encourage you to familiarize yourself with our General Guidelines and Rules.

Below, you will find some basic tips and guidelines for posting to different areas of the site.

Submitting Apps to an App Directory

  1. If you are a developer, please DO NOT submit your own app to our App Directory. Please ask one of your blind or low vision beta testers to do this, as they will be able to offer accurate information on the app’s accessibility that is based upon real-world experience. If you have no beta tester able to do this and believe that your app will be of genuine interest and value to blind and low vision users, then please consider posting information about the app to this site’s discussion forum. Note that app entries submitted by the developer will be removed.
  2. Fully familiarize yourself with the app before submitting it to this site. Be sure that you have tested all screens and features of the app for possible accessibility issues.
  3. Check to make sure that there isn’t already an App Directory entry for the app on this site. Use the Site search and also check the automated report on the submission form which will list any existing entries with similar names after you have entered the name of the app.
  4. To help avoid any confusion, please ensure that the name of the app is correct and complete, as the App Store contains many apps with similar names.
  5. Ensure that the other details of the app are as accurate and complete as possible.
  6. Ensure that your comments about the accessibility of the app are clear, accurate and complete. Bear in mind that English will not be the first language of all readers.
  7. Ensure that the accessibility ratings that you select for the app are a fair and accurate reflection of your comments.
  8. Be prepared to answer any questions about the app entry in a timely manner.
  9. If necessary, be prepared to correct in a timely manner any mistakes or omissions which are identified by readers.

If you have done all of the above, you can be sure that readers will appreciate and benefit from the information that you provide on the accessibility of an app.
