In this open-world, role-playing crime game you can be whoever you want, be it Bully, Businessman or Barbarian, so long as you’ve got the brains and bullets to back it up.
Torn City is so gritty and real that British Prime Minister Theresa May's staff used this game to learn about real criminal behaviour. Don't believe us? Google it. This genre-defining MMO RPG burst onto the scene in 2004 with its unique blend of old-school text-based action and immersive gritty content, and Torn's limitless, free-to-play virtual city continues to provide new experiences over a decade later.

This game is quite complex. There is a lot on the screen, so it can be difficult to find things at first. However, the developers have done a lot to make this game and its web portal acccesssible. Be patient and explore thoroughly, and you will soon be familiar with the layout.
This game is enormous! It is possible to spend years playing and still find new things to do. Try nnot to get busted and hauled off to the hospital, or to jail!

This sounds like a game I would so love to play. Going to try it out.
I’m having trouble creating an account. Is there anyway that I can create an account and actually play?
What part of the process is giving you trouble? There is a captcha , but there is an accessible alternative.
Never mind. I got it created. This game is great so far
I entered the audio captcha then I tapped on verify. The button was dimmed so I figured the account was made I checked my email to see if they sent me anything but I didn't receive any confirmation or anything. I came out of the game and tried to log back in entering my correct email and password and its telling me its incorrect. I got fedup I deleted it. Will probably try back again with it sometime. No matter how much I check the box to say I'm not a robot its still staying unchecked.
What you need to do is create an account using the website. It is not the best on the app.
I play this game for some times now.
How can you attack other players?
I keep getting mugged and can't defend myself.
how can i do all this? vo seems to jump all over the place. obviously people can play this so the fact that it's beating me is most frustrating. can anybody help me please?
Alright. I have had the same issue. Most likely what is causing you trouble is chat windows. They can get in the way and you need to collapse them. So what you need to do is find the username of the person who has chatted to you. Find just the username, not the username as a link. Tap that, and it will collapse the tab.
To attack other players, what you need to do is click on their name. So go home, then find your recent attacks. You can click the username of the person who attacked you. Then click the link that says loader2.php."
A new screen should appear, with a button that says start attacking. Tap that, then tap the attack with... button that corresponding with your weapon of choice.
This app is unfortunately riddled with issues. Although is is... usable, links aren't correctly or clearly labeled from an accessibility standpoint. At least, quite a few of them. Chats are difficult to deal with and cause the voiceover curser to jump around all over the place.
Unfortunately, I saw a note on their website which statess that the developers may be forced to pull it, due to Apple not allowing them to push out any new updates. See here https://www.torn.com/forums.php#/p=threads&f=1&t=16113771&b=0&a=0
This may be because I'm trying with the browser ... but has anyone figured out how to actually rent a new place to live?
I can select the tab for a place, but this seems to just expand more information about the place and I can't figure out where the button/link is to say I want to rent that place.
ok so if the app is pulled how do we play the game? i mean for example, using a computer, i've tried with crome, IE and edge and i can't launch courses. the only way i can do them is with the phone and you need the education part of it to progress. so is this game worth continuing on with or what? if people have found ways around this then i'd love to know. i am using the latest NVDA. i've tried using the mouse curser but when it comes to certain pages like courses the curser gets stuck on the back to education button.
can't seem to buy ammo. either on the computer or through the phone. any ideas?
In terms of issues you are facing on the computer, my advice is to head over to the forums. Look around and you'll easily spot a forum for submitting issues related to accessibility.
As for buying ammo on the app what you need to do is first tap the heading of the ammo that you want to buy. A textfield should appear. Tap on that and then enter the value. In some cases there are different types of ammo, so you can tap on one of those to set what kind of ammo you buy I think. Then hit buy.
with regards to buying ammo, that's what i do and nothing seems to happen. the mission doesn't seem to complete.
Regarding courses and buying ammo, I was able to do both of those things with Chrome+JAWS 2019, so I'm wondering if it may be an NVDA thing/quirk?
My only issue so far has been trying to rent a new place. I suppose I can just raise enough money to buy myself a trailer, though, which may be easier at this point.
ok so i'm going to try contacting the developers. i'm going to use their twitter user. hopefully i can ask for some help here. i still can't buy ammo or anything like that.
I don't think you'll be able to contact them via Twitter. Your best bet is to go through the forums. Or, possibly, to join the Torn Discord server.
well i found the web accessibility thread in the bugs and issues forum and have commented on it but nothing has been said and nothing has been addressed. so i think sadly i'm going to give up on this game because it just bugs me every time i log in and can't really do all that much. annoying really because i used to be able to play the game.
When you tried to buy ammo using the phone, did you find and tap the Yes button? It asks if you're sure you want to make the purchase.
I am still able to play the game using the iOS app. THe experience in Safari is pretty much the same, but I'll use the app as long as it still connects to the server.
i can find no such option for yes or no for buying ammo either on the phone, the crome app or safari app.
Walk me through exactly what you do within the app?
Okay guys. So after getting with an admin of Torn on Discord I now have a much better idea how to deal with any accessibility issues that come up.
The best way to bring the attention of the devs to an issue is to navigate to the forums under the areas heading, and find the bugs and issues form. THen create a new topic under there by finding the new topic button. Label your issue with "WAI:" at the beginning, minus the quotes, then provide the device you are using, along with the screenreader, and browser. I submitted four bugs related to accessibility, all of which have been confirmed and which I am figuring will be fixed fairly soon.
Updates are always rolled out on Tuesday. It's possible that some of these issues will be addressed by this upcoming Tuesday, but more likely it will be by next, given the back and forth between administrators that's involved. I have already seen a few WAI related fixes put in in the span of a few weeks, so hopefully this continues.
Agreed wiht the last poster - one of the bugs I submitted regarding JAWS was already fixed. I have 2 others that were confirmed, and I put in a 3rd just yesterday (I think a fix they did to address an NVDA issue with the Education page broke things for JAWS ... but looking at the code it shouldn't be hard to make it so it works for both screen readers - they seem toh ave misplaced the role attribute, I think.)
So I can confirm that the devs are definitely on top of accessibility issues over at Torn. A fix for the gym unlock percentage not being read, among other things, has been pushed out. I've run into some more accessibility issues which have yet to be confirmed, but I'm confident they will be as I haven't been rejected yet. The team seems to be pretty quick on the draw when it comes to fixing bugs after confirmation, at least from what I've seen.
Though... I'm pretty sure they'll start to hate me soon if I keep sending them bugs. Heh.
Hi all. When a sighted friend told me about this game I was really excited to play it. A general chat window keeps popping up. I bought a gun and equipped it but can’t buy ammo. Any tips? Getting really frustrated!
I play this in my browser on my PC, TBH, but I'd hope it'd be similar/same functionality on IOS.
To buy ammo, you go to the City link, then the Gun shop link, then there is a button called "Ammo Locker".
The very first ammo listed will be the ones used for your equipped weapons. There is usually a button first off that says something like "0 Ammo". Click on that and it is supposed to expand an area that has text boxes for inputting the amount you want to buy (the first text box) or the amount you want to sell (2nd text box).
Lately I've noticed the button to confirm the quantity after you put it in stays looking disabled when it really isn't. I was able to hit enter on it and that brought up the confirmation window.
It's been hit or miss on getting accsesibility bugs fixed in a timely manner, as well. I've reported a few, and only one got fixed so far. Someone else reported a bug wiht the Education selection thing with NVDA ... in which they promptly "fixed" it and broke it for my screen readre combo (Chrome+JAWS). I can still get it to work, but I have to route JAWS cursor and everything to get it to work. I've posted a bug regarding this, but it hasn't been fixed yet (and looking at the source code, I am able to see what they goofed up to make it act that way since I do web dev for a living.)
The main one I've been having problems iwth is buying things from other player in the Item Market. I have been unable to buy anything from playerse there, as the button to buy is not coded properly. I also submitted a bug for this but haven't heard anything abck from it.
I really hope they sort some of these issues out. Thanks for your help.
wow! if this is a audio game.
it will be more funny!
