Hi,
I'm looking for something to protect my new MBP 14 inch from bonks and dings, a plight that I'm sure many of you can indeifty with.
My ideal would be a leather case that opens and remains in place around the computer, like some big sexy wallet... But I don't think that this exists.
Reading the descriptions of cases, sleeves and shells, I think that the latter is the only one that is permanent protection. I did have one for an old computer which had a couple of uncomfortable plastic tabs at the front of the computer that dug into my palms as I typed, so I'd really like something that doesn't get in the way.
Any recommendations? I think a thin shell will do, I'm not really looking for a bomb proof case.
Thanks for any help and experience you can provide.

I use a sleeve
Not exactly what you were looking for but I just use a leather sleeve that I found on Amazon and put it in there when I'm not using it. The reason I don't like these hardshell cases is that a lot of times they can interfere with the thermals of the machine actually causing more harm to the machine. Ultimately when I'm using it I'm going to be sitting around and not walking with it so dinging it shouldn't be a concern, and when I am on the move the leather sleeve gives it well enough protection. These are just my thoughts hope they help.
Yeah, I had one of these for…
Yeah, I had one of these for my previous machine, trouble is I use my computer on sofas and on beds etc actually on my lap so there is a degree of motion involved when setting it down, which are the danger moments, as chips in the edge of my old MacBook Air can attest to.
Regarding thermals, for the MacBook Pro, I'd assume that shell cases include the vents on either side on the bottom. It's certainly something to be aware of but I rarely push my machine to the point of fans coming on. There are a couple of shells that apple have on their shop which suggests to me that, at least some shells are designed with such thermal conduction in mind. Guess the cheaper you go, the less likely the material will be suitable to remove excess heat.
andar case
I looked at the adar MacBook Pro case.
I ended up going with incase because I wanted a hard case but adar MacBook Pro 14 case is leather I think.

When I had Aira describe it it sounds like it's a leather case that just snaps around the MBP letting it freely open, and protects it in leather.
Thank you, that looks good…

I'm actually trying a skin that I've just ordered. it's made UK side so not too expensive but shall report back on my findings and try to give a more tactile review of the product. Youtube videos for accessories are all well and good if you can see what they're talking about, but hands on is certainly a lot better.
I use a sleeve, only because of not building my mac
I use a sleeve, only because the person who built my Mac, didn’t tell me about the optional accessories. I was taking some university courses, and needed a Mac. If I could’ve, I would’ve bought a gold MacBookPro, instead of space gray, and I would’ve bought a Tech 21 clear case for it. The time has come to get a new Mac, as mine does not support Ventura. No gold is available for the new M2 MacBookAir, and that’s what I’m planning to buy. Maybe I’ll go with Starlight.
Quick update... For those…
Quick update... For those others interested...
I wanted to keep the lovely lines of my slab of aluminium so bought a skin. The top went on fine, protecting the rear of the screen... And that's where the ease of application ended.
I got very sweaty and very angry, finally, after two hours, balling the vinyl sheet up and tossing it in the bin.
I now have a £18 hard shell for my MacBook which is fine for protection (every corner and edge is covered), it doesn't quite fit right. The rear of the case on the bottom half keeps popping off which is driving me to distraction. The thought of things out of line, dangling off and so on, really grinds my gears... Not sure why.
...And so, the search continues. I think I'm going to try the case suggested by techluver, see if the more premium shell works better.
