Proofreading documents on mac

Hi, I'm a copywriter and part of my job is producing clean copy with no grammatical, spelling or punctuation errors. Obviously proof reading as a blind person is much harder as all I get is VO reading the document out which won't tip me off about any formatting or phonetic errors.

As Microsoft is STILL not accessible, I'm looking for something that can really check my documents in detail. I've been using the OS spell check and grammar check but can't help feeling that these may be lacking somewhat. I remember word used to have a very comprehensive checker but that is not an option. Thanks for any suggestions.

It might help to turn on speaking of formatting changes. In this mode, VoiceOver will announce any formatting change as you read text, which normally gets old fast, but may be something you find helpful. Just hit vo-v, left or right arrow to "text attributes", and then down arrow to "speak" and press enter or space to close the dialog. Don't forget to turn this off again, though. :)

You may also wish to set up an activity for proof-reading, which turns on the afore mentioned feature, slows down your speech, increases your punctuation level, and does anything else you might want. To use this, press vo-x and choose the activity you want. As before, don't forget to switch out of the activity when you're done, or you'll end up with far more detail than you care about while reading tweets and emails.

Great suggestions

I've done exactly this. I do all my writing in ByWord so I've set it active for that app. Thanks for the tips.
