It is super-fabulous that ‘Sight as a Service’ in the form of Be My Eyes and AIRA are now available on the Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses. Of course, the very next thing I want, right now, is to be able to use Be My AI and Access AI on them to and I some concerns.
Firstly, the glasses already have an AI built in, Look and Tell
. I think Meta might not be too keen to integrate another AI service, especially one that uses a competitor’s model.
Secondly, I have seen some talk of ‘Ally’ an AI assistant for visually impaired and old people involving Meta and Envision. Are Meta going to allow BME and AIRA to integrate there AI services when they have there own ‘Look and Tell’ feature, along with whatever Ally is? And Envision use Gemini, so how would that even work?
What do you think?

I'm hoping OpenAI is just a plugin
I assume that BME on Meta will use Meta's AI, for the reasons you already stated.
But, that might have benefits. If BME's design is enhanced to support a sort of plugin architecture, then an end-user might have a wide variety of AIs to select from. Just not on your Ray-Ban.
it's coming in some form
Hi Lottie,
I don't know if you checked out Double Tap's Friday episode, but they've got an interview with Hans and Brian from Be My Eyes, and BeMyAI is coming they hope.

Thanks Tara
That's amazing news! I should listen to DT, but I never feel like I have the time - maybe I can get an AI to listen to it for me?
Curious about Ally...
I'm curious to know if Ally is the name that is now being given to the Envision Assistant beta? I signed up a little while back to be one of their beta testers, and have been very impressed thus far. I'm wondering if this will ever be a part of the Envision app that is publicly available? I have this app on my phone, but not the glasses. The app is pretty cool, although I haven't been able to get it to do much because of my aim being off. But my father hinted in the car on the way back from a recent doctor visit, that he is building me an iPhone stand. I'm not sure when it'll be ready, but he says it will be much like the iPhone stands that my sister and brother-in-law have at their house. Not sure whether their kids have these as well, but the stands are quite nice. Anyway...here's hoping mine will help out in aiming the phone properly.
