Seeking feedback and suggestions for the Blindfold series of iOS games

App Developer

Tennis is on my list of games. Would people want the game to use arm movements like the Wii, or use your finger on the screen?

Also, are there any other games or suggestions that you have for the Blindfold series of iOS games?

#351 My vote is Golf

I would vote for a golf game. Back in the days when I used a windows machine on a regular basis, there was a gentleman named Jim Kitchen who designed a brilliant golf game. It used tones to indicate your strength when you swing the ball. Let’s look at the following scenario.

1. You are at whole number one, distance 322 yards, par four.
2. At this point, you choose the club you wanted for hitting the ball off of the t. In this case, a driver, or a number one wood was used.
3. Let’s say the ball traveled 290 yards. Now, you have 32 yards to go before making it onto the green, at which point, you would use the putter.
4. Once you made it onto the green, a slower tone would play which indicated the strength of the putt.

The tone for getting the ball onto the green is a fast up and down tone. It lasted around 2 seconds or so. The higher the tone, the harder you hit the ball. When it came time to putt, the same tone was used, but it was much slower, since putting is more of a delicate skill of the game. However, the same concept still applies. The higher the tone, the harder the swing. There was also all different kinds of scenery as you went through all the 18 holes.

Of course, I’m not suggesting that an iOS version of the game be created exactly as described, but this is just a quick example of how the game was played.

I've been thinking about this one for a while, and in the ideal case, if I could get my hands on the source code to Jim's game, I could port it over to iOS, while I work on something more movement oriented. I sent an email to the person caretaking Jim's stuff, but he never answered me. If anyone has any ideas in this regard, let me know.

#353 GTA like games

App Developer

I want to do a racing game, but doing the complexity GTA is beyond the scope that I could get done in a reasonable amount of time. One of the problems I continue to tackle is how to present a lot of information normally presented visually, as audio information, without becoming overwhelming. In addition, sometimes I have to simplify the game to accommodate things that are almost impossible to do without seeing, for example, in pool, putting the correct spin on the cue ball, and hit the target ball at the precise angle off center of the ball, so the ball lands in the pocket, and the cue ball is positioned for the next shot. I'm bad enough at real pool to usually not succeed, and I've watched people play pool apps on their iPad, which lets you line all that up. It's a ridiculous amount of analyzing different angles and speeds, and would probably make the game overly complex and not fun.

#354 Color Switch?

A popular game I find on the app store a lot is Color Switch. Could that be a possible idea for a new game?

#355 Jim kitchen

I am sad to report that Jim Kitchen passed away last summer. I should have mentioned this in my earlier post, but I got so wrapped up in the description of the game, that it just did not occure to me. I do not know if any of his source code is available. That is all the information I have at this point, unfortunately.

#356 GTA

That game would need parental permission to play, and is probably not a game that Marty would produce, partially due to copyright issues and partly because it is not a game for everyone due to the content.

#357 How about Henry?

What about Henry? Henry is a 90's hand held game by Tiger it had 4 rows of 4 buttons at the bottom was a shuffle button that refreshed the board and swapped in and out sounds. At the top was a button you would press to get a sound. You would then press one of the buttons to try and match the given sound. You had to remember in which position the sounds were so that you could match them. The goal was to get 4 matched sounds in a row either across, vertically, or diagonally. There would have to be a lot of sounds for it maybe 30 to 50 to keep the game fresh. Maybe even sound packs could be sold as well. I do remember small versions of Henry did exist one being Toy Story and the other The Simpsons. I could only find a comercial for the game and not a review of it but it's a fun game. The top button to get a sound could be a 2 finger double tap, and to shuffel it could be a 3 finger flick up or down.

#358 Trains or farming game

Hi. I would like to play a farming or something like train station a popular railroad sim on facebook. Also, a way to win some coins will be kool. To be honest, I find a little expensive some upgrades and also why to buy them without multiplayer?

#359 Henery

O, my. I loved that game. I didn't even think about that one. Nice

#360 Thanks!

Yeah I love that game too!

#362 How about blindfold drag race?

Don't quite know how it would work, but racing a dragster through a quarter mile against a computer opponent could just be fun.

#363 Drag Racing

As a drag fan, I like this idea. Some thoughts on how it might work follow.

One of the keys to drag racing success is reaction time. A set of tones could indicate the Christmas tree lights, and a tap at the right time would lead to a good launch.

Many classes require well timed shifts, indicated in the car by a shift light. We could hear a tone.

Steering is minimal, but, just like other car race games we could hear the side walls and redirect the car into the groove at the center of the track.

The amount of variation in the car set up is practically endless. Tire pressure, engine timing, components, and other factors are potentially too much to deal with, but a reasonable subset could be chosen and made modifiable.

There could be a path from shade tree mechanic,to professional driver, through winning to fund racing and upgrades.

#364 About Blindfold Air Hockey

This comment is about something that I noticed when I was at the main menu of Blindfold Air Hockey, where the available competitors are listed. If I am not mistaken, it said, for example, "Dave is a beginner player and plays slow".I believe that, if you wanted to show that he is not a good player, the word beginner should be replaced with a word like pore. The reason why I make this suggestion is that a beginner player is not always a pore one, but an advanced player can be much worse thana beginner one.

#365 Dave is a poor player

App Developer

Very valid point. The next time I work on that game, I'll make the change.

#366 A Suggestion

Hi. I don't know how it would work, but it would be cool if you could make a Blinfold Dumb Ways To Die game. Like it could tell you what to do, and you would have to perform a specific gesture or series of gestures in a certain amount of time.

#367 Wizards Castle

I know I said this one before but it truly was a fun game. Sadly I can't [play it any more because it was DOS. There is small battles with different creatures and you want to get the eye of zot.
You buy different levels of weapons like a sword a dagger, ETC. leather armour or steel, you get the idea. You can raise your health strength and dex.
Fast, fun and sometimes winnable.
I do enjoy Spin and Solve and Road Trip!
Thanks for the games you make,
A

#368 Dumb ways to die

App Developer

I've played that game and its fun. Got any ideas for sound effects that would make it more enjoyable?

#369 I still hope

I still hope that there can be a Blindfold olympics in celebration for the olympics in Rio. You could release specific events as you go along developiq them, and IAP's covd be a certain event class aka track; field; gymnastics.

#370 Dumb Ways To Die

I think there is an event where you have to swim past the sharks, so maybe have the same water noise as Blindfold Hopper and then some sort of sound affect for the shark in whichever direction it is. For skiiing it could be kind of l Blindfold Racer where the music is you and you have to try not to vere off the track. I'm not sure what other events there are in the game though.

#371 RE: Dumb Ways to Die

Club AppleVis Member

I'm sure you could get some Applevis subscribers to volunteer some grizzly death sounds.

#372 Suggestions

I know I've suggested these in the past, but these are still rather popular card games. A Blindfold Euchre and a Blindfold Cribbage.

#373 There is alr

is already some accessible cribbage apps out there.

#374 cribbage and euchre

App Developer

I want to do these; I just need to find someone who did some research on how to create a good opponent.

#375 It would be nice

It would be nice if you still do cribbage and echure, even if there are some accessible cribbage apps, why not add some more?

#376 cribbage/euchre

App Developer

Both games are on my list to build.

#377 Suggestions for future games

I still think a Snooker game (if possible) would be great!

Also golf as I have said many times before. I have now managed to find the game PC Golf by Jim Kitchen and it is extremely easy to play and extremely addictive.
Other subscribers to this forum also had ideas in the past for games such as Fishing and Drag Racing, which again sound really fun and interesting.

I've never played Dumb Ways To Die, but it sounds fun as well. Was this game for sighted people?

#378 Dumb ways to die

Yeah its really visual, you have to get through dangerous scenarios without dying

#379 Yep I bet

Yep I bet Paige is right about it being visual.
It makes sense, and it is kinda obvious by the title if you think about it.

#380 ways to die

App Developer

I may be able to do a version where there may be some things to find on the screen, and then you have to guess what gestures to do. I need to think on it for a while; people should do the same.

#381 Soccer

Hi. How about a simple soccer game. After seeing the basketball game! I think this is possible. There is a game called Blindfold Penalty Shootout on the appstore and all you have to do is to compete in a penalty shootout game but it's not very accessible. I was wondering if you could take a look at the game and see if you could create a version of the game?

#382 Another idea for the Blindfold Series

I have been playing Blindfold Air Hockey and Blindfold Breakout recently and another idea for a game popped in to my head. Would it be possible to make Blindfold Squash? I'm not sure how the computer opponents would work though, but as you can hear the ball bouncing off the back and side walls in Air Hockey and Breakout, there might be a way a squash game could be done?

#383 bubble pop

You should make a bubble popping game. Its kind of relaxing to pop bubbles. You could make it like when you put on headphones you have to move your finger on the screen center the bubbles and double tap to pop them. Add time limits and maybe put a monster or something on the screen and you have to try to avoid it if you run in to it the game is over. I'm trying to associate something else with bubbles but I couldn't think of anything. I didn't really want to take the exact features of the super egg hunt game done by Liam. In his game there's a chicken and if the chicken pecks you the time runs down when collecting eggs and if you step on the chicken then its history. And there are clocks to collect to get moe time. like 7 seconds extra I think. So if a game could be made like this that would be great. Sorry for the long post.

#384 Chuckie Egg game?

Does anyone remember Chuckie Egg which I think was released in the 80s? Wondered if this game could be remade in some way?

#385 Blindfold fishing perhaps?

It would be nice to have a fishing game where you can choose different lakes to fish from. Perhaps different lakes and fishing gear could be purchased. Each different lake could have different fish to catch and the difficulty would obviously depend on the size of the fish. I think it would be both casual and fun at the same time. That is, if you can figure out an idea to make such again work.

#386 Blindfold Fishing and other suggestions

I have also suggested this in the past along with games such as Golf, Squash, Snooker, Darts and a number of others. As other people have said though, I'm not sure how these games could be made to work on iDevices. The only suggestion I think could work quite well is a Backgammon game. Especially as the board game Blindfold Checkers now exists. Blindfold Fishing is a great idea though!

#387 Life

It would be really cool if there was an accessible version of the game of Life.

#388 Another suggestion

I forget when this was suggested, but some kind ob game, or rather build-a-game, like you create a jable, create how the balls function, or something like that.

#389 Squash

App Developer

How would it be different from tennis? What sounds, other than the ball hitting a racket, would you recommend?
I haven't done tennis, but I will.

#390 Secconed request for Life

I agree Life would be great! Also you could have so many sounds such as a baby crying for a new birth. There was a Play Station game of Life that I used to play all the time! Some of the things I couldn't do like when it said choose left or right but everything else was great! Here's a link to a play through.

#391 Possible bug in Blindfold Checkers?

Not sure whether I have found a bug in Blindfold Checkers at the very beginning of a new game? Maybe someone who has played the game can confirm?

Anyway, no matter what move I make with my first red checker, the computer will always make a move which will force me to take a black checker on my second move. It doesn't matter which computer opponent I play, or which move I make at the very start of the game, the outcome is always the same. Has anyone else noticed this?

#392 Who wants to be a millionaire or a deal or no deal game?

Was reading the comments on the Suggestions for the Game of Life idea and wondered if a Who Wants To Be a Millionaire game or a Deal or No Deal game could be made? Think they would be quite fun!

#393 Apologies for the comment about a possible bug in Checkers

My apologies for that comment. If I had actually read the tutorial part of the help section through completely, I would have relised why the computer made these moves. There's also the fact that I am an absolutely rubbish Checker player and that's putting it mildly.

#394 Notifications in blindfold bowling with friends

Hello. I noticed, that notifications for Blindfold Bowling with friends don't work. I didn't receive notification that someone joined game, but when I opened the game, it said that someone joined it. And I noticed, that notifications about joining the game are displayed like alerts in notifications center but we don't receive pop up notification. It's not comfortable for me, because I don't open it often. is there any solution how I can know about joining the game? thank you.

#395 notifications

App Developer

I had this problem reported before. Please send me an email from the game so I can investigate.

#396 I sent it

Hello again. I sent you an email with the text of previous message and my device Id. I also noticed, that in blindfold games app I receive notifications in notification Center like alert only but I don't have any sounds.

#397 the game of life

I requested that game to be made. And yes it would be great to use different effects through out the game. And million year and deal or no deal is good too. I don't know if the developer would have to get permission to do it because of copyright. Another game I would like is shopping spree. I heard my mom playing it and she was explaining it to me. Its a kind of gambling game like the slots but when you get 3 of the same fruits you get a minute to shop like crazy. They have some blank boxes and when you click on it it shows the items you picked like clothes or perfumes and julery and other things. But there's one if you click the cash register then you have to cash your items and play again till you get another shopping spree.

Yees, I would DEFINETELY enjoy a game of life, I love that game but I can't play it by myself because there are no accessible apps. I would also love a Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, and Shopping Spree sounds AWESOME too. Just curious, what is Deal Or No Deal?

#399 Cheating Tom

This idea just randomly popped into my head. My friend plays this game and she described it. You are a kid and you have to cheat on kids by tapping their desks, (maybe in the Blindfold version there you would hold yuor finger and drag it around until the voice said desk). Once you started holding your finger on the desk, a bar would fill up, (maybe the bar filling could be represented in musical tones increasing in pitch). You couldn't cheat for too long or the kid would raise their hand. Also qmetimes the teacher would look at you and you would have to lift your finger to go back to your desk, (maybe you could here footsteps as if the teacher was walking toward you). Anyway I just randomly thought of this and thought it would be fun.

#400 deal or no deal

In this game you are presented with 26 cases. Each of them holding a certain amount of money. One of the case has a million dollars. You have to keep one of the cases for your self until you are ready to end the game. You start by opening 6 cases at first. If you knock down the large amounts of money your bank offer will be low. If you keep the big amounts in play the offer goes up. If you say no deal to the first offer, you have to open 5 cases. It goes like that until you have to open one at a time. There's a version of this game for ios but its not accessible.
