Hi,
Downloaded Sonoma 14.1 this morning and have notice that, when on the google search result page, I can't just use VO and right/left to navigate through the page, instead, I am dumped into a group which I have to VO shift up to get out of before I can move to the next item. I'm VO command H jumping between headings...
I thought it might be a google change, but seems to happen on reddit too. I've had a play with web order and navigation, but this annoying behaviour seems to persist...
I'm really hoping it's user error this end otherwise a shitty web experience has gotten even shittier.

Did you...?
Did you maybe swap the web page from Dom to Group? That sounds like how Group order works. Double check your VO Utility.

Nope. I'm actually on a fresh install on a new computer. It seems to be doing group for all results on the google page, IE, you have to move up a level to read the snippit of text of the result...
Absolute nonsence.
This is a 14.1 issue as, before installing I was using 13.5 and that seemed to work fine.
I just installed 14.1 earlier this afternoon...
I have not experienced this, at least not yet.
Granted I am on an older intel-based MBP. 🤷
I did try switching back and…
I did try switching back and forth from Dom and group and, to be honest, it's just inconsistant. No matter which mode it is in, somethimes it reads through, other times it loops. To be honest, this has been an issue for a while with the VO focus rapping in groups...
Its an utter mess. I really can't imagine any older people learning how to use the mac, interactions is just so inconsistant and convoluted in many of the key apps, appstore, music, apple TV, safari etc.
Since Ventura or earlier?
I honestly hated Ventura, but for different reasons. Monterey and earlier are still preferable for me, but since I have not even had 14.1 for 24 hours, I figure I will give it a shot.
Having said that, your issue blows my mind. I agree Mac and VO in its current revision.
How I wish I could go back…
How I wish I could go back to those earlier releases. I just don't think it is possible or, at least, it isn't possible without jumping through some considerably narrow hoops.
You can go back...
To as far back as the version of OS X/macOS that came preinstalled on your Mac. It's not hard, even for a fully sightless person like myself. Just time consuming.
I am always jumping back and forth on my old MBP between Catalina and (now) Sonoma.
As I said, not hard, just time consuming.
Now, if Apple would allow us this luxury on iOS.
Going back
If you go back, will you lose your data?
Backup your data
You will not lose anything so long as you use some form of backup system. You can backup by:
-> Copying your files to an external drive.
-> Using TimeMachine to backup data.
-> Use iCloud Drive to backup your data
-> Use a 3rd party software to backup data.
So long as you backup your data, you shouldn't lose anything. Also remember to have iCloud Drive enabled for Messages, so you won't lose any text messages you received on your Mac.
The only thing you may have to do is (re)download some apps. Although TimeMachine may be able to help with that too.
HTH. 😀
