Sadly, if you didn't have it, and there seem to be no repositories for old apps, for legal reasons, I'm not sure what to tell you. If there weren't legal issues behind it, I'd have no problem redistributing the app. Given that it is free anyway, I do not see the harm, but have been advised against doing so.
I was wondering why can we not help others to their dilemma with this app? If it is possible to have somebody to use my old version of Skype, I don't mind sharing it. I would totally understand and honor the legality of this app if they have been doing their best to make this app accessible. When you think about it, it's been a while now since we have requested these people to fix the accessibility of the Skype, and we even featured this here, and still they haven't done anything about it. To make the matter worst, as they roll out a new version of Skype, the Accessibility is getting worst. So Why don't we help each other with our own capability? Just saying.
Hi.
While I do agree with your points about distributing older versions of free apps, it's a risk the Applevis staff are not willing to take. I did bring this up as a suggestion that we could start hosting older versions of apps, but all other staff didn't seem too enthused about the idea for the reasons I mentioned above.
Hi everyone, I am a skype user, unfortunately I need the app for work porpousses, I have sent more than 40 requests to skype team to make the app accesible for voice over, with no answer. When I read the comments around here I felt hopeful, I thought someone would at last solve the problems I'm having since I bought my #iphone 3 months ago, because unfortunately when i installed skype it was not accesible. I can't use the dial pat nor the chat functions,. I understand the legal issues, I just ask you, please to reconsidere a way of helpin. There has to be a way, am not asking you to post the ap here in applevis, but skype is not aanswering any of our accessibility requests, and the ap is free, so please could someone think a way of redirecting us wich unfortunately have not the accessible version to a way of obtaining and installing it? please, I am in real need of it. Thanks.
It's my understanding that developers are only allowed to make apps available through official channels. This means either the App Store or what are called ad-hoc releases. The latter are generally used for testing of beta builds, and although they can be distributed via email, the process is still tightly controlled by Apple. The developer has to register your iDevice under their developer account, and then create a custom build of the app that can only be used on that iDevice. Not only is this time consuming for the developer, but there are also limits on the number of iDevices that they can register. This makes it very unlikely that they would do this for an old version of their app.
Distributing or sharing apps outside of these official channels would breach Apple's terms and conditions and the copyright of the developer. So, although there are good reasons for people wanting the older version of the Skype app, AppleVis would in no way endorse or support sharing of the relevant file.
shareing an app file across several i-devices isn't possible because of the appleid that the app is downloaded on. If you try, it will just ask for a password for an appleid that you doesn't even know.
Hi Apple Vis staffs, Since you have clarrified your concern about the legality issue, do you have any suggestion how to help some of these people who are suffering with their inaccessible apps? Personally, if transferring this old version via E-mail would work, I don't mind sharing this. Legally speaking, it is wrong to share this app, but when you think about it, it is a free app, so sharing this seems no difference distributing this to the app store. Besides, we are not modifying the app itself. We are just sharing this to be useable for everyone. Again, Just saying!
hi applevis stuff. I totally understand your explanations for not sharing and everything. it's absolutely right, but still there has to be a way to help us that, havn't arrived to ios soon enough to have the accessible version. Of course if I have had the accessible version I wouldn't have updated, sadly I bought my iphone too late.
please, there has to be a way of solving this problem. To everyone who is whilling to share the ap, it will be awesome if there was a way of doing it, i would gladly apreciate, and am sure others will also.
Thanks again to everyone.
Well, I completely understand the complication of this matter. I to wish I had the older version and need to do abetter job of backing up my older apps in case something like this were to happen again.
Sadly, at this time I am able to give you any advice becse it is against the law. Also, I believe in telling you on a public site like AppleVis could closed down AppleVis regardless what the situation is even if it for this reasons. The copyright law is quite clear and this is consider as pirating if we could share files even if it is free.
At this time I can't suggest you on anything. What I can say is that I believe even if you could share apps with each other. I believe it would not work unless your phone is jailbroken. So if your phone is not jailbroken this would not work at all. Even at this time I have not heard of a hack yet that could turn your 5.1 in to a jailbroken device. I am no expert on this but maybe could clearify this for me.
E-mailing to each other is really none of my business and what happens behind other computers is not our concerns. Many people do this and find ways to torrent files but remember this is illegal.
Sorry, that I can't help out.
Thanks, if the jailbreaking is the only way, am afraid i wont use that way. i don't like messing up with those things.
Unfortunately then, I'll have to stick with the current inaccessible version then, till the skype team hears our shout, wich I don't think is going to arrive soon.
Thanks aniway for the suggestions.
