Broadening the scope of discussion

A few people have contacted me by email to suggest that we broaden the scope for discussion in this forum.

The main requests have been for a more general discussion area and for somewhere to discuss apps.

I have some reservations about doing this, as the VIPhone mailing list already provides us with an excellent means of discussing most of the things that are likely to interest visitors to this site.

However, I am also aware that the forum format offers many advantages over a mailing list. For example, it is easier to find and follow the topics that interest you (or to simply avoid those that don't).

So, I would like to get an idea of whether there is much support for broadening the scope of this forum.
