A Demonstration of Alexa, The Amazon Echo Companion App for iOS

Member of the AppleVis Editorial Team

In this podcast, Mike Malarsie gives us a demonstration of Amazon Alexa, the free companion app to the company’s Echo hands-free speaker that you control with your voice. Echo connects to the Alexa Voice Service, to play music, provide information, news, sports scores, weather, and more. The more you use the Alexa voice assistant, the more she adapts to your speech patterns, vocabulary, and personal preferences.

The Amazon Alexa App lets you easily manage your alarms, music, shopping lists, and more -- wherever you are.

#1 iTunes

Can you connect your iTunes to Alexa or your PC to see the movies that you have in your main hardrive?

#2 nope

Unfortunately, not at this time. Apple and Amazon are in competition with each other in the cloud music space, so I highly doubt that Amazon and iTunes/apple anything will work together in the near future. It's a hell of an idea, though. The echo is a separate hardware device so for it to see stuff on your hard drive, you would have to figure out how to get the 2 to interface with each other, and I'm not quite sure how they could work that out. I have to admit that asking Alexa to play any song on my hd would be cool.

#3 Alexa on Roger app

App Developer

Hi! I am Yushu from the Roger team. Great podcast there :) Just a shoutout to those who are interested in using Alexa, but do not have an Amazon Echo, then you might want to try using it through Roger! We are a VoiceOver accessible mobile app that allows you to use Alexa through our app :)
