Accessibility Comments
Accessibility in this app has dramatically improved as of October 2015, the app is very accessible, there are some elements on the screen that don't seem to read with VoiceOver and just click when you flick over them. However these are mostly just when navigating shows and other pages.
Of particular note in this app is the fact that when streaming a show the video playback controls are fully accessible and flicking allows you to adjust the playback position, no need to tap and hold, also the VoiceOver cursor doesn't appear to get stuck in the video window like happens in other similar on demand apps from ITV and channel 5.
another nice feature the app now has is support for rotor actions.
on the top left of the app is an element labeled as navigation bar menu items, and if you flick down from this point with your VoiceOver rotor set to actions you get a very nice menu of shortcuts, to home, search, catchup, a to z categories, boxsets, shorts, downloads, and settings.
If your flicking through a program list you get options to activate item which takes you to the program page in the app, the rotor also allows you to play programs by flicking to the play action once on a program page.
when I just launched the app I got a message highlighting the VoiceOver improvements, other tv companies who have on demand apps could learn a lot from this one. I have spotted some unlabeled buttons, but so far I have found no need to tap them to see what they do. Its because of the unlabeled buttons and the unspoken elements I have given this app the rating I have, but these issues shouldn't put anyone off from using it. Hopefully the other issues can be resolved as it seems like they have really taken there time to improve accessibility and not just done some basic work and left it at that like sky and other companies.
