If you have ever played an interactive fiction title, probably on a PC or even a Mac, then you will have at least an idea of how this game is played. On one hand, you have your typical controls such as:
"look at item".
"Use item".
"Examine item".
"Read item".
"Take item".

You also have your navigational commands:
"go north, east, west, south, up, or down".

And more interactive command such as:
"use item with other item".
"Combine item with other item".

Etc. Etc.

What makes this game stand out in my humble opinion, is how fluid the voice recognition is, and how thorough this game has been developed so that even if your voice commands are not "spot on", the game can determine what you were trying to do. Furthermore you can increase or decrease the speech rate, or even change it to except typed in commands, if you want a more "traditional" gaming experience.

So far, I have only cleared about four rooms, but this game is really fascinating. If you like interactive fiction, or text adventures, you should definitely give this one a try.

Bonus, it is a free game as well! 😃✌️

Anyone figure out how to... ***
spoiler
***
use the nozzle with the gas tank and lantern? I can't for the life of me figure that out. I've tried, when taking the gas tank off the lantern, putting it on the nozzle but when I use the nozzle, it tells me that the gas tank has been put on the lantern. I suspect this is a bug or am I missing something odvious. ***
end of spoiler
*** Note... Message me if needed. I love the game though. I'm just rather stuck.

By Brian on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

I PM'ed you. I finally got through this puzzle. :-)
On a sidenote, you are correct that if you try to use the nozzle, you will get that message about the lantern. You will also end up with a second gas canister in your inventory. It's weird, but I do not think it will break the game.

By RYFT on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

We were going to post here soon, but nice to have it done for us! Glad you guys are enjoying the game!

@Brian, @Jonathan you guys definitely found a bug! Thanks! I've been able to recreate it. Should be fixed in the next update.

Spoiler:
You should be able to progress without issue, as long as the game says at least one gas tank is screwed into the gas line. Let us know if you're seeing any other issues!
End spoiler.

You can contact us directly at [email protected] if you run into anything else, or just have suggestions!

By Jonathan Candler on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

I got your PM and will give it a spin here soon. Thanks.

By Brian on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

Now I am stuck somewhere. Trying to figure out how to use -- the thing you have to charge -- in order to pass through a -- particular door -- in the Lab.
Apologies, trying to be purposely vague here. :)

By RYFT on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

@Brian, feel free to email me if you want more help than the encyclopedia can provide. We're open to updating it if people don't find it helpful enough.

You can reach me at [email protected]

By Brian on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

I will keep you in mind, but I am going to try my best to solve this on my own. I'm stubborn like that. :)

By That Blind Canuck on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

I too am stuck at the point where you have to use the thing that needs to be charged to go through a particular doorway. I've talked to everyone, used every item in my inventory with those individuals, explored every location and can't figure out for the life of me how to proceed.

Anyone have maybe a possible hint?

By Brian on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

Haven't figured this one out yet either. I will admit that I have been busy the past few days, so have not had as much time to think on it as I would have liked.

By RYFT on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

Email me at [email protected] and I'll send you a hint without spoiling anything in this thread. (also need to ask some follow up questions about where you are exactly).

By Lisa on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

Where or how do I get this gas tank I'm reading about in the comments? According to the encyclopedia, I'm supposed to find something in the basement, but as of yet, I don't even know where the basement is. Can someone please give me a hint? I'm getting pretty desperate by now :)

By Brian on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

Sent you a PM. Hope it helps ya out. :)

By Lisa on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

Thanks a lot, I found the lab! I had a feeling I was missing something very obvious and I was right. :)

By Lisa on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

I've actually just finished the game, so if anyone needs help, just let me know!

By Brian on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

Sure, I could use some help with the tablet and the special door in the basement area. I can't for the life of me figure out what I am supposed to do next.
Feel free to PM me if you're willing. :-)

By Lisa on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

Sent you a PM. :)

By Brian on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

Replied back. In case you don't see it right away, the answer to both of your questions is "yes". Even have the particular door open, I just can't seem to pass through it.

By Brian on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

I finally completed the game. That last puzzle was a doozy though! 😖

By That Blind Canuck on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

Same here, that last puzzle was a doozie! Had all the right pieces, just didn't know how to proprerly put them together. That and Hadn't used the correct words to enter the vault door. Once I actually tried to enter, then the path to proceed was clear.

By RYFT on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

Glad you all got to the end! Please email me if you think the last puzzle needs improvement. We could potentially tweak something if it's difficult for the wrong reasons! (Solving it should be hard, actually doing it should be easy!).

If you tried something you think should have worked, or if it was just confusing how to put it all together, let me know! [email protected]

I've played interactive fiction games in the past on my computer using the keyboard but how do I play on the phone? I haven't downloaded the game yet but do I use siri to give commands such as go north, pick up item, etc?

By Brian on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

You do not use Siri for this. The game has built in speech recognition, and it is insanely responsive. When you start playing, it will describe a room your in, or if you have already visited that room, it will give a brief description. You then Speak out your commands just as if you would type them out in a traditional interactive fiction game, which by the way typing is an option here, though it's a little tricky to do if you don't have a keyboard.
The speech recognition is amazing though. It is by far one of the most responsive systems I have ever used, in any application, ever.
Download the game and give it a try, I promise you will love how it works. It is amazingly adaptable and playable. 😆

By David Lai on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

I need to know how to get to the basement to get the stove working. Also, what is it with the grandfather clock? What numbers should I move to? The Encyclopedia of Hints doesn't give many clues, unfortunately.

Also, for new beginners, I suggest the starting portion can be slightly improved. My friend was stuck for a long time in the butler's room.

Thanks for any hints,

David

By Brian on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

Stay tuned ...
edit: Sent you a pm. I hope it helps you out. :-)

By David Lai on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

Hi Brian,

I don't see where one can view PMs on the website or even reply to them. However, thanks for your message that was sent to my email. I connected the gass tank to the gassline, but is in need to activate it. How do I do that?

Thanks,

David

By Brian on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

With this website, you always get your PM in your email inbox. Just the way the system is set up. I will give you another hint in another p.m. Stay tuned ...

By Troy B on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

I will give it a try for sure. I always enjoyed playing the Infocom games on the computer years ago and it sounds like this may be similar.

By David Lai on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

Thanks Brian, but how do I reply to your PM?

Update: I found that once the 2 are connected, I need to return to the kitchen.

Now I have the pass code and restored power to the basement lab, and I was presented with this confusing bit of time.

What's next? The encyclopedia is no help here, except "general advice."

Maybe someone should write a getting started guide of sorts?

Thanks,

David

By RYFT on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

We're in the process of improving the hint system for this case, but the last line of the general advice is very relevant.

Happy to give you something more direct if you need! Feel free to email me at [email protected]

By Brian on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

Well, it looks like you figured it out, before I got my last PM to you, David. Good job! Regarding responding to a p.m., you just reply to it like you would a regular email.

By David Lai on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

OK, I'll reply you. I've basically done everything and saw this mess of time... And... I'm now left wondering, is this it?

By Brian on Friday, February 14, 2025 - 09:00

I think it even says that in the beginning of the game, this is just the first part, or chapter, or whatever, in an ongoing story.

By That Blind Canuck on Friday, February 21, 2025 - 09:00

On a side note, how does one send a PM to someone through the site? Glad to learn how to reply, but not sure how to send one.

As for the game, it was awesome! Definitely had me scratching my head, trying to figure out how to solve some of the puzzles. I did chuckle at the character in the hedge maze. I found it to be an ingenius way to ask for donations and, with this creative method, I just had to donate a little something.

I truly look forward to Part 2 and hope that others decide to use this platform for other games of this type.

There is one thing I wanted to suggest, when listening to the audio, maybe it was me, but the audio didn't sound rich. Don't get me wrong, it didn't stop me from playing, but it kind of felt as though the audio was a little less in quality.

Either then that, 5 stars from me, great game and I've been recommending it to all my friends.

By David Lai on Friday, February 21, 2025 - 09:00

Thanks to Brian and the Ryft Game support that helped me finally get to the game's end! It felt very satisfactory.

My general guide to everyone new, after getting the note pad and the encyclopedia of hints, is to absolutely look and pick up anything possible. I overlooked the clamp at the kennel house, as the bike handle bars. Also, the chair can be moved so the front door can be accessible. These were things I've missed, and discovered while playing a second time.

By Brian on Friday, February 21, 2025 - 09:00

to PM somebody on this site:
1. Click on the person's name link, like my name at the start of this post. It will take you to the individual's user profile.
2. Click/tap on the contact tab. I believe if you're on a desktop computer, you can immediately find the contact tab, if you're on something like iOS, you have to double tap on a button to display the contact tab.
3. Tap on Contact, and there will be a Web form.
4. Fill in the subject and message fields, your name and email, or whatever AppleVis uses as a relay, will auto fill.
5. Tap on send and you are done. The person will receive it in their email inbox, and can reply to you like they would a normal email.

HTH.

Wonderful, thanks for the info!

By Emily Chia on Friday, February 21, 2025 - 09:00

I am in need of some help as well, I just started this game a few days ago, I actually had to take a break because I was getting frustrated, spoiler alert, I am needing help with trying to get the butler out of the closet, I’ve done everything, regarding using the book for the answer, and hint, and I’m not too sure, what I’m doing wrong, everything I’m doing is not working.

By Brian on Friday, February 21, 2025 - 09:00

Fair warning, there is quite a bit to do in order to actually free the butler, so I'm not sure how much info you want me to give you. I'm happy to help though. :-)
Edit, I sent you a PM. Hope it helps you out.

By RYFT on Friday, February 21, 2025 - 09:00

I sent an email yesterday to your gmail asking a few follow up questions, haven't gotten a response yet. Still happy to help!

How do I get the thermos full of nothing but water and sleeping pills?

Another question. Spoilers after this sentence; stop here if you don't want them.
. . . . . .
I gave Cosette the letter Archie wrote, not the hate note...which I've found is the way to split those two up...is it possible to finish the game without splitting them up, and/or undo the letter mistake somehow? Many thanks in advance for pointers.
