Komoot uses background audio service for voice navigation messages.
Komoot requires a GPS signal for directions, Tour recording and speed in real-time.
Please note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Do a ride, save it, and then you can repeat with turn by turn instructions. Some basic features very accessible, but room for lots of improvements if the developers can recognise the value the audio turn by turn announcements provides for blind tandem cyclists wanting to direct a ride.
From a given gpx file, its the only app I've found that can rovide audio turn by turn audio instruction for VoiceOver users. Planning a route with way points can be done, and routes can be saved and given friendly names, and 1 region / county is given for free, but worldwide full audio navigation qaccess is quite reasonable as a one off payment. Searching for other users routes in an area seems impossible / difficult, and lots of other aspects to improve. It seems impossible to preview any route and to access any list of turn by turn steps, which you can do with GoogleMaps, but of course that cannot be done from a GPX file.
