Other Comments

If you love using the Mona app for Mastodon, this new version is definately worth the upgrade!
One of the major new features of this new app, is auto-generation of alt text for images.
This app is also available for macOS. In fact, they're currently offering Mona pro max for all devices, at a discount of $19.99 once, in the US.
This is a limited time offer & I'm unsure how long it will be available, so if I were you, I'd certainly take advantage of it, while I'm able.

The link to the App Store is not working. I’ve only come across this post today and I check Apple this every day. I’m hoping it’s just a wrong link or something? I already have Mona and it’s a great app.

Hi,
I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience the invalid link may have caused.
It should be all fixed now though.
Please keep me posted.

Had not seeing it in the apple store yet.

Hello,
I'm not sure where you're located, but the new app is available in the US app store, as of last night.

Hi,
Try the new, corrected link above.
Let me know if you still have trouble.
I have Mona 7 & it works great! :)

Hi there,
I'm not seeing an app link anywhere on this page.
Edit, it shows up now after a page refresh. That was odd.

By KE8UPE on Thursday, December 18, 2025 - 01:51

Hi,
Yes, requiring a page refresh for the link to appear, is indeed, a bit strange, but I'm glad it worked for you.
Were you able to access the app, using the new link?

By KE8UPE on Thursday, December 18, 2025 - 12:16

Wow! That was quick,!
Just 2 days after the initial release of Mona 7, version 7.1 has been released!
Here are the release notes, if anyone is geeky, like me & enjoys reading that stuff.

Thank you for your continued support! This update introduces new alternate app icons, brings optimizations for iPadOS 26, and resolves tab bar–related issues on iPhone.

Did a search on the app store, got it and needed to delete mona 6. Lucky for mona 7, my data was transfer. Long live cats.

I had preordered Mona 7 the day before release and I love it so far. Definitely worth the upgrade!

By mr grieves on Sunday, December 21, 2025 - 14:25

I seem to remember Mona 6 was free but with a subscription, and you could buy a permanent subscription (which I did). I presume Mona 7 starts again so none of this carries over.

What makes Mona 7 a worthy upgrade? I suspect being more of a lurker than poster on Mastodon I am unlikely to notice much difference but I am curious.

By Holger Fiallo on Sunday, December 21, 2025 - 14:41

Thought I did not need to pay for it, do not recall VO saying about price when I got it. If so, not nice. I pay for it when it was on discount forever. Long live cats.

OK I thought I would try installing Mona 7 to see what happens. Firstly, it was nice how it just knew who I was without me having to login or anything.

However, it does look like the subscription does not carry over. Mona is free but there are some features hidden behind Mona Ultra. I bought the lifetime version of this for Mona 6 but it says I have no subscriptions for Mona 7. I was expecting this as there would otherwise not be much point in them releasing a new major version.

I think it does make sense for apps to release a new app for a major version and charge again. I'm a little unsure about how I feel about this being a subscription though. But I suppose it does give people the option of a lower monthly cost instead of having to buy it outright so probably having flexibility is a good thing. On the other, I don't feel I quite got good value out of my lifetime subscription. But then I guess Mona 6 does still work and if it continues to do so for a time then maybe it's not so bad.

I think I only bought Mona Ultra for one fairly basic feature - think it might have been reposting or something - that was not available in the free version.

I used to use Ice Cubes before this. I actually found that app a little easier to navigate. I find sometimes I want to look at who a person follows or are being followed by, and I go round and round in circles trying to find out where the option is hidden in Mona. But on the other hand, Ice Cubes seemed to not be showing me posts that were ther ein Mona so that was a bit of a deal breaker. I do like the way Mona manages to properly focus on new content, though.

I'll see if I can find anything new and essential in Mona 7 otherwise I'll stick with 6 until it breaks probably.

Have 7 in my phone but my iPad 9 still have 6. Will keep it and just use the free version. Bside I use the iPad to type respond to threads. Long live cats.

By mr grieves on Sunday, December 21, 2025 - 15:42

I'd obviously forgotten most of this. With Mona 6, there were two subscriptions - there was Pro which gave you extra features just on one platform (e.g. iOS) and then there is Mona Pro Max which is the same but you can use it across devices (e.g. iOS and Mac).

For Mona 7 there is just Ultra which gives you extra features include some AI tools plus works across devices.

You get a discount if you previously had one of the other subscriptions - so if you had Pro Max you can get Ultra lifetime for £20. For me it is £30. It says this is a limited offer, but I'm not sure when it expires nor what the regular price is, unless you are forced to go monthly.

Features like repost and marking as favourite are now part of the free app, so I'm not sure there is a huge incentive for me to upgrade.

Got that. Long live cats.

I too have the lifetime purchase of Mona 6. I’m not ruling out upgrading to Mona 7, but I’m not clear on what the benefits are of 7 over 6? Can anyone enlighten us?
Thanks.

You can get a reminder to add alt text before posting an image or video. If your device supports Apple Intelligence it can even do this for you.
You can also post live photos among numerous other features. ,

Mona 6 seems to work fine for me, and I'm not really keen to add more AI to any of my apps. Very hesitant to pay again, though I do want to support this app and continued development. But all that to say I, too, am a bit unclear about the ways in which this new release is better.

By Holger Fiallo on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 - 21:21

Wander if I can get mona 6 remove 7. Have it on my iPad 9 mona 6. Long live cats.
