Apple Releases iOS 13.4.1 and iPadOS 13.4.1 With FaceTime and Bluetooth Bug Fixes

By AppleVis, 7 April, 2020

Member of the AppleVis Editorial Team

Apple has today released iOS 13.4.1 and iPadOS 13.4.1 to the public.

These appear to be minor releases focusing on fixes for a small number of bugs which Apple presumably believed should not wait until the releases of iOS 13.4.5 and iPadOS 13.4.5 (both of which are currently in beta testing).

In the case of iOS 13.4.1, the release notes mention just two fixes:

  • Fixes an issue where devices running iOS 13.4 could not participate in FaceTime calls with devices running iOS 9.3.6 and earlier or OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 and earlier
  • Addresses a bug with the Settings app where choosing Bluetooth from the quick actions menu on the Home screen would fail

The iPadOS release has one additional fix:

  • Fixes an issue where devices running iPadOS 13.4 could not participate in FaceTime calls with devices running iOS 9.3.6 and earlier or OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 and earlier
  • Addresses an issue on iPad Pro 12.9-inch (4th generation) and iPad Pro 11-inch (2nd generation) where the flashlight may not turn on after tapping the Flashlight button in Control Center or on the Lock screen
  • Addresses a bug with the Settings app where choosing Bluetooth from the quick actions menu on the Home screen would fail

At this time we are unaware of any fixes or changes for blind or low vision users in these releases, and our expectation is that there will be none due to these being minor updates with a narrow and specific focus. However, we will update this post if we do discover or learn of any changes.

If you encounter any fixes, changes or enhancements during your own use of these releases, please let us know by posting a comment below.

iOS 13.4.1 and iPadOS 13.4.1 are available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings > General > Software Update) via Finder on a Mac with macOS Catalina, or via iTunes on a PC or Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier.

Before updating, we strongly recommend making a full and complete backup of your device (either locally or in iCloud, depending on personal preference). This will ensure that, in the unlikely event that something goes wrong during the update process, you will have a current backup on hand in case a device restore becomes necessary. Also, if using OTA update, we recommend plugging your device into a power source for the duration of the download/installation process, so as to prevent the unlikely event of your battery going dead during the update.

More information on how to update the software on your device is available on this Apple Support page.

As always, we look forward to hearing your thoughts on these updates.

Just updated, but unfortunately, the end dictation beep is gone, but can still be herd through earphones or when AirPods are connected. I hope apple fixes it soon.

It isn't gone for me.

Hi. Not sure if you restarted or anything, but I just tested it and everything works ok. i'm glad they fixed the context menu, it was weird. I always have mine on silent, so I didn't notice anything unusual.
