Apple Releases watchOS 2.0.1 with Performance Improvements and Bug Fixes

Apple has today released watchOS 2.0.1.

For blind and low vision users, Apple has addressed a bug where the on/off status of alarms was not spoken by VoiceOver; changing the text input language when replying is also now accessible.

Unlike iOS 9.1 and OS X 10.11.1, there were no pre-release betas of watchOS 2.0.1 issued to developers. Thus, if additional accessibility changes are identified, we will update this post accordingly.

Besides the accessibility improvements noted above, AppleInsider reports that watchOS 2.0.1 contains fixes for battery life, app installs, calendar syncing and support for the latest emoji characters also found in iOS 9.1 and OS X 10.11.1.

Apple also noted that the update includes performance improvements and bug fixes. Among the changes found in the update are:

  • A fix for an issue that could cause software updates to stall
  • Fixes for issues that were impacting battery performance
  • A resolution for an issue that could prevent a managed iPhone from syncing iOS Calendar events to Apple Watch

WatchOS 2.0.1 can be downloaded in the Apple Watch iPhone app under Settings> General> Software Update. In order for the update to install, the Apple Watch must be placed on the charger and must also be within range of the iPhone it is paired to.

More information on how to update the software on your Apple Watch is available on this Apple Support page.

As always, we would love to hear your thoughts on this update and information about any accessibility-related changes that you find,

Well, it looks like the Ping Iphone feature has also been fixed.
This is great, because I love being a little more relaxed about puting down my phone and knowing that I will be able to find it again easily.g

Hi,

It's great that the Alarms and Ping iPhone features have been fixed.
As near as I can tell though, the ability to mark a Reminder as Completed from the Notifications screen is still broken. If this impacts anyone else, it would be great if you could also report it to Apple...
Have a happy day.

I purchased blind square this week and it works fine on my phone but I cannot get it to show up on my watch. Has anyone had success with this?
