Eloquence is back on Android

Just a quick FYI for anyone who didn't know it already. Eloquence is now back on the Play Store. It's a subscription model. I can totally understand why they did it that way, enabling them to provide future updates and upkeep, though I also understand it might not be the most popular decision.
I, for one, am willing to pay for it to have it back, and it is now a 64 bit app, making it compatible with all modern smart phones.
The one issue I've had so far is that it tends to hang a lot, so when you come across a large block of text, even if you try scrolling past it, it keeps reading and causes Talkback to freeze up. This is an issue I was not having with the mod that was made available in the Blind Android Users telegram. But for the first re-release, bringing it up to 2025 standards, it's pretty good. I don't know of any other way to submit feedback other than app reviews, so did that and hope they will get that bug fixed.

I will use the 32 bit version cause i can, a subscription for a tts is stupid

Well, if you ever want to update phones to the more modern ones, and you still want eloquence, you don't have much of a choice. I would rather it be a one off, but such are the times we live in, and I want Eloquence beyond my S22 Ultra.

Unfortunately, just about everything is a subscription now. But I agree, a subscription for TTS is really stupid. That’s one thing that’s cool with iPhones and voiceover that we don’t have to pay for any of the voices that we get. This includes eloquence. Also, I wouldn’t want to pay for vocalizer voices. I know people who use androids have to do that. I definitely wouldn’t do it. My favorite vocalizer voices are Karen Samantha and I could use them in any variant. Right now my iPhone SE third generation I used Samantha enhanced and on my iPhone 15 I just can’t premium. I don’t know. I’m still literally not used to the idea of eloquence coming out of my phone. So I just don’t use it.

For those who are saying that they wouldn't pay for eloquence and they're happy they get it for free on iOS. It's because Apple has made a deal with them! Same with vocalizer. Google really believes and it's high-quality voices that they have which most are fine! So it's up to the user whether or not they want vocalizer eloquence, etc. Just two different ways to look at it I guess.

For a lot of users, Google TTS is fine. I look at it like this, you are still paying for the tts on iPhone anyway in a rather round about way due to the Apple tax. Would I prefer a one and done purchase for the tts? Sure! But I do value Eloquence enough that for me, it is still worth it. If it isn't worth it for you, fine, keep using the reasonably good option offered by Google. Honestly, if they were to ever add a pronunciation dictionary to be able to correct mispronounciations, I would happily use Google TTS.

Does anyone have experience with Acappella or Vocalizer on Android? I am curious as to how well they do, or don't do, with regards to functionality and usability.
I think somebody mentioned on here a while back, that the Acappella voices do not speak out emojis. I don't know if that means they don't announce the emoji itself, or the word "emoji" after an emoji.

I think the subscription is great for all of us since the code factory will keep the software updated, and with technology constantly evolving, I don’t see a reason not to go for it.

I'm fine with the emoji tag not being spoken aloud, when the TTS reads an emoji. I'm used to this behavior from iOS, which has given us the ability to toggle reading out the emoji tag. So, if this is the only real issue, then I may go with an Acappella voice when I finally get my Android device.
The Acappella voices are nice. Although I do miss the old Ivona voices, but ever since Amazon bought them out...

Is it normal on Google Play to not show the price? I looked at the webpage and it says to install the app to see the price. Well, I am both curious and lazy and would prefer to see numbers first. But perhaps this is a Google Play thing? I am not as familiar with Android as iOS though I do use both.

Under the 'Abot This App' section of the Google Play page, it reads:

$2.99 - $29.90 per item

Thus, I'm guessing 2.99 monthly, 29.00 yearly.

My thing is, eloquence has been around since before I was even born, and I can't understand why they'd need to make it a subscription model when it isn't likely it will require ongoing maintenance.
I think it's time it becomes open source, but I know that won't ever happen.
I'll keep dreaming though lol.

I completely agree, Alec Quinn should not need a subscription. It’s such an old synthesizer now it’s not likely that they’re adding any more updates to it. Plus, honestly I don’t even like the synthesizer. I wish it would just go away, but it’s always gonna be the default for jaws, unfortunately. That’s OK though I have downloaded every single English speaking book as a voice for Jaws. So my default sense for Jaws vocalizer. Using Karen premium high in jaws. Because why not. Is my favorite Voice. My other favorite vocalizer Samantha. I’m using enhanced Samantha on my iPhone SE and I use Karen premium on my iPhone 15.

By Justin Harris on Monday, December 22, 2025 - 01:46

That's the nice thing. If you like it, it's at least available. If you don't, fine, you have other options. I would love to see it made open source, but don't see that happening any time soon. And, while I don't think there will be any ground breaking updates to the engine itself, there very well could be improvements to performance, plus other small enhancements to the app, and the subscription will allow them to continue to make the app compatible with modern hardware as it continues to evolve. Just because you may not like the tts, there are obviously enough of us that do, or it would not have been worth the time and effort to make it 64 bit compatible and bring it back.

Simple answer. Money. Long live cats.

Elegance will always sound super mechanical robotic though. So they won’t ever be any improvement to the quality of the voices that it has. They’ve also had the same old eight voices since 1998 when they did that big upgrade with Jaws and they had Dr. Jaws examining the systems. I’m sure there’s enough people on here to remember that. That wasn’t when they changed from Wade and flow to read and Shelley live in the same sense. It’s a long time to keep us synthesizer being exactly the same. Also the thing that’s annoying when eloquence is all the voices are really just one voice is being pitch shifted. That’s all it is. The vocalizer voices aren’t like that. I guess this people that like it. I’m not seeing you can’t. It’s literally just my opinion about that very old mechanicals. I even told freedom scientific that I don’t like eloquent.

Luckily you have choices. Given that and you already know your distaste for Eloquence why are you hanging out on this thread? Must you really bash my favorite voice? DO I understand its quality or lack there of issues? Yes. DO I know that it works the best for my specific hearing loss situation? Also yes. I hope we can live in harmony and play our favorite voices.

By Singer Girl on Friday, December 26, 2025 - 12:34

Yes, we absolutely can. I have hearing loss too. I understand those people who definitely have for that. It’s true that there’s a lot of options for us. So it’s good that they made eloquent available people he needed it.

It's really weird.
I used to be a windows user, up until 2020. I've been an iPhone user since I want to say 2011 or 2012.
I've always used eloquence for Windows. Then when I switched over to mac, I was pretty content with Alex.
But for some reason when they gave us eloquence in I believe it was 2022, I'm inexplicably switched back. I think it's just so ingrained for me as the computer voice, and I also ended up changing my iPhone to eloquence at that same time.
And if I were to ever switch to android... I think I'd pay the $30 a year to get my voice back. Of course eloquence isn't the reason I stay on IOS, far from it. I'm just saying I'm glad this is an option for those who want to use eloquence on Android.
And I'm very, very glad it's available as a yearly plan. I hate monthly subscriptions. Yearly doesn't feel as... intrusive for some reason.

By Travis Roth on Saturday, December 27, 2025 - 20:13

I did the same thing. I got used to Alex, but 30-something years of Eloquence... And I just upgraded my Apple watch and was so excited to find it now has Eloquence. The thing is Eloquence doesn't necessarily pronounce everything correctly, but I know what it means when it says something.
Full disclosure: I have not gotten the new Eloquence for Android yet. I have been tolerating Google's voice seven (yep that's its descriptive name) but part of that is I do not use Android that much now. And just last week I was struggling enough in an unfamiliar app with some weird phrasing and off pronunciation I had to connect a Braille display to sort it out. I expect if I have a big job to do on Android I'd order up Eloquence.

By Justin Harris on Saturday, December 27, 2025 - 21:36

Hello,
Yes, I'm just used to eloquence being the computer voice. There are much nicer sounding voices out there, but I understand Eloquence, plus it does have the pronunciation dictionary. Having said that, until they fix the few bugs that do exist, with it hanging on large blocks of text even when I swipe past it, I've had to switch back to Vocalizer. But once they do update, I'll be more than happy to use it full time.

By Singer Girl on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 - 12:42

I had three favorite voices when I used to use Eliquis. I liked Bobby, Glenn, and Sandy. Of course on iOS they are Eddie, Sandy, and flow. Not sure why they were renamed, but it’s all good. So if I ever did have to use Eliquis again. I would at least have a few voices that I do like. I definitely get why people like it. My first computer I ever used at the Keynote gold voice. I wouldn’t mind using that again sometimes just for purely nostalgia but I’m sure I will probably still go back to vocalizer either way. I totally get it. I actually get why there’s people that need to use eloquence. I’m glad it’s available for everybody who needs it.

By Holger Fiallo on Saturday, January 3, 2026 - 02:59

Sounds much better when I use my headset in my PC with windows 10. When I do not use it, is OK. In my iPhone is not great so I do not use it. Probably the same in android. Long live cats.
