Where do I start?

Hello everyone, I have gotten interested in building universal apps for iOS and was wondering if someone could give me a few pointers on how to begin working on a program. I have registered with Apple's Developer program, but the documentation on their website seems very confusing without any knowledge of deciphering the technical jargon associated with programming. I'd be very grateful for a suggestion of something from which to learn the programming code, an accessible programming engine (i.e. something to write code, compile, debug and test the finished product), and tips on making my apps accessible.
