Hi there,
iOS 26.6 came out on Monday with a note about preparing your device to index for iOS 27, but I am also thinking about going on the iOS 27 public beta. Since I heard that it's pretty stable, minus the voices that I've been hearing that have been glitching, I probably will be upgrading to beta 5 because I'm pretty sure that will be releasing on Monday, August 3rd, 2026.
Here's the thing: I'm currently running iOS 26.5.2. Should I update to iOS 26.6 first, or should I dive right into the public beta? I have an iPhone 15 Pro with 78% maximum capacity battery health.
My question: should I update to iOS 26.6 and then do the beta update directly into the beta from iOS 26.5.2? Or skip the betas and wait for a more stable release, such as the 8th or 9th beta or RC release? Or just wait for the public launch of iOS 27 in September?

My humble advice
Wait for the public release of iOS 27. You can go ahead and upgrade to 26.6 now, if you really really want to. In the interim, you should perhaps look into getting your battery replaced, as I understand it the indexing that iOS 27 will do upon initial installation will be a huge battery drain, and with a battery that only has a 78% capacity, this may not be so good for you.
Just my humble two cents. 😇
second
I agree. My 15 Pro battery was at 81% and I ended up replacing it. I'm now running the 27 public beta and my phone feels almost good as new, sans the VO audio issues people have discussed here.
So you might want to hold off jumping on the beta train if issues like that would be a deal breaker for you. I will say with both public beta versions, it has taken my phone about 10days to index, though I didn't really notice any slowdown while it was happening.
But if you're planning on keeping your 15 Pro, look into a battery swap and then decide if the beta would b worth it to you.
stable performance?
Hi,
What's the stable performance like in general? I have beta tested iOS 26 last year and despite the bugs that people have been reporting on here it's been working pretty well. I have an iPhone 16 Pro and after installing 26.6, the battery has been working as normal with no issues.
seems stable, to me
i have an iPhone Seventeen, and the twenty seven betas work well.
