just tried out the meta specs with be my eyes and whilst its pretty damn funky just being able to say, meta be my eyes and getting a sighted person who can look where u r looking to read stuff. eg. just tried it out on an amazon returns label. ok thats great but apart from the inclusion of apple music, they dont actually have any other real use.
there 'where am i' is very inaccurate. they have the advantage that u can still hear traffic and et al when listening to the iphone, as bt headphones. i am a bit puzzled as to if theres any other practical use for them.
would be interested to others views on them.

Get to 88 miles an hour and see what happens
So start running. And get up to 88 miles per hour. something interesting will happen.
If you can’t run that fast, then return the glasses. You won’t benefit from them beyond the really basic poor people functions
Meta vs a Delorean
Mythological flux capacitors aside, the Meta's are pretty convenient for OCR tasks. Not to say that you can't do the same thing with your smart phone, but the Meta's are definitely handy in various situations. And you don't ever have to take your phone out in order to use them.
Using your glasses camera with WhatsApp is pretty cool
It’s basically BME, but with people you know.
You can do a video call with somebody and switch between the glasses camera and your phone‘s camera automatically by double-pressing the capture button.
I’ve used it a few times. Most recently, I used it to get to a certain part of a park without anyone assisting me.
I’ve also used them when nobody was at home, and I wanted to throw a pizza in the oven.
A lot of this you could do with your smartphone, but having the glasses was especially amazing when trying to figure out how to cook a pizza with nobody there, because the other person at the other end of the line could see exactly what I was doing, without me having to risk burning an expensive iPhone.
Meta perfection
I would love to see Meta incorporate something like Google meet, so that we could do video calls with just about anybody. I realize WhatsApp is easy enough, but not everybody uses WhatsApp.
I like them
I think the hands free is where they shine. Sure, other AI and apps have better results, but the Meta AI still does some things well. I like it in the kitchen as it does well identifying box foods, can goods, and seasonings. Hands free is a much better experience for these tasks. I also like it when walking my dog. The open ear is great for using Nearby Explorer. The glasses can replace my Aftershocks if needed. I can also ask Meta while walking to update me on sports scores, check the weather, ask the name of the street I am on, etc. all without taking my phone out of my pocket. Finally, I think taking pictures is easier by looking straight rather than pointing the phone straight. maybe this last one is just me.
Hidden benefits
I thought that the best use of these would be for visual help. And, arguably, that's amazing, but as most of us know, we can get along pretty well without seeing.
I've realized that one of the most wonderful thing about them is that they're a GREAT BT headset. They allow me to use my phone privately and still hear the world around me. As a blind person, that's no small thing.
They leave much to be desired in the AI visualization realm, but they're coming along. When I got mine in Jan. of 24 the OCR was aweful it would make stuff up instead of reading, or saying there was no text.
Computer silent on boot-up?
Recently I rebooted my computer and it didn't start talking right away. I pressed keys, I typed my pin and nothing.
So, I put my metas on and started live-AI.
I asked her if she could see my computer screen and what was happening. She responded that the computer was trying to boot from a usb device, but that there was no OS on the device. She told me to disconnect the usb device and hit any key.
I realized that I did have a usb stick plugged in and so I pulled it out, hit a key and I was up and running.
And to think…
You solved that situation all on your lonesome. :-)
Yeah I was able to try the…
Yeah I was able to try the pair of a friend of mine and the handsfree alone is amazing. Plus their aesthetics is really nice something we shouldn't overlook.
no ai in the uk
ok well that explains that then. we essentially dont have the ai stuff in the uk, ie. look and ask, ocr etc, ho hum.
Re: no ai in the uk
Which I think is absolutely ridiculous. I realize every country has their own viewpoint on privacy and such, but really — Meta is just losing potential revenue at this point.
aesthetics and ...
aesthetics and being able to hear the world around me while still listening to music is amazing.
