can we stop braille displays changing focus with every new message?

Braille on Apple Products

Hi,
In ios in any interactive app like facebook messenger the braille display jumps each time a new text or message arrives.
It changes focus. This makes any kind of fast chatting impossible.
The display jumps to a new focus before I can read the previous message unless the messages are spread out making for very slow chat.
There is no way to disable cursor tracking in ios.
If you turn off cursor tracking on a mac does the display still jump every time a new text or message arrives?
More generally is there a way to make the display not shift focus except when I tell it to?
thanks.
