AirPods Pro 2 are laggier than AirPods Pro 1

By Alexl1, 6 October, 2022

There’s something very wrong with the AirPods Pro 2. I just upgraded from the AirPods Pro 1 and I think there are some issues. Voiceover seems a lot more laggy when using them when compared to the AirPods Pro 1 - they don’t read what’s on the screen as quickly as the first gen.

Another issue is that they sometimes go out of sync with each other. Voiceover is like a millisecond faster on one ear than the other so it echoes.

The first issue is the most frustrating and I’ll be sticking to the 1st gen until the 2nd gen aren’t as laggy.

Do you have a link to the temporary solutions? Didn’t know it was a known issue.

Agreed. I am hoping for a fix with firmware.

The fixes are simply taking out AirPods and putting them back in to establish bluetooth connection/restarting phone. Find the syncing issue does resolve itself after a time. Both are inconvenient. It's always annoying when apple launch unfinished products like this, but I'm certain it will be resolved soon.

I hope you are enjoying the better parts of them though, improved sound, case, volume control etc.

I got actually a very snobby response from apple support about this. I tried uploading my sys diag to them via dropbox using thier twitter account and they said they cant' except that. bull crap. come on, it's a freaking file to give to yoru support team. I sent the same report to feedback.apple.com so I really earge you guys to do the same. do not deal with apple support on twitter. they are of no help. They btw wanted to know what region I was fun to do some stupid demographics stuff. I also refust to have a call with a senior advisor as the last time they were snobbish at me as they thought they knew more than I did. I proved them wrong, that at the time was a sim card issue with my phone as I knew all along.

I regret to inform that even with the latest beta firmware and iOS there's no fix to the out-of-sync issue. Very irritating. Sure, you can wait ten seconds with no sound and resume normal service, but if you flick quickly enough with VoiceOver you're almost certain to start it off again. I do love the vast improvement in battery and transparency mode but I agree that you may want to keep the originals or other cans on standby for a while longer.

Still present after latest firmware

My AirPods updated overnight to the new firmware that was released yesterday.. I've already experienced the strange audio effect mentioned above, so it seems that Apple hasn't fixed this. Conor me extremely disappointed.

I can't duplicate the lag issue either

Here my Airpods Pro 2 are as responsive, if not more responsive than, the first-gen Pro. Of course, I do see the audio synch issue with VoiceOver very occasionally, but it is resolves as soon as I, say, disable/re-enable noise-canceling. I really like the new Pro 2 pair I picked up few days ago - they really surpass the first-gen Pro Airpods in many aspects.

There isn’t a lag for me either

I was about to post about this issue as well. My AirPods Pro, to, are even more responsive than the previous pros. I also noticed that they connect to the phone. Faster too. Since this is happening to a lot of people though, is there a way to report this to Apple?

Maybe the lag has to do with the age of the phone

An`d the number of Bluetooth connections. I am not sure. I can only tell you that I fall in the "Not Lagging" camp.

I’ve got an iPhone 12 Pro Max - it’s not that old.

It's usable, and I tend to get used to anything, so I don't honestly know if I'm lagging or not. All I know is, it seems to improve on the original AirPods Pro.

Oh, and the new firmware (which I could only obtain, BTW, by moving back onto the non-beta track) does seem to have reduced, if not quite eliminated, the silly sync syndrome I was seeing earlier. YMMV.

Can confirm the latency issues but can also can confirm the decoupling issue between AirPods is gone in the latest firmware. There is still some stereo soundstage drift, but they are acting a lot more like a public release now. Am having some issues with them not immediately connecting to my iPhone and having to go into control centre to link them up, which is probably down to them hooking up with other apple products around the house.

When they work, I still love them. Apple's just a bit shit these days.

Maybe if all get the firm version that just came out might help.
