Hi all. My battery is dying in this six your old Mac. I don't know much about the referbished Mac, I had a bad experience with an old Dell, so i'm cautious. I do know the referbs don't have much storage, we're talking around 256gb. I also would like anyone trading their old computer, give me a ballpark estimate as to how much they wanted to give you. I really wasn't prepared for this, but at least this happened when the back to school sales are on. Thanks for any help.

Battery
Hello,
If you are only having issues with the battery but everything else works fine, consider getting a new battery. A new battery costs about 100 USD and anyone that can follow an instructional video can do it. Have a sighted friend or family do it for you then buy them dinner or pay them.
You can find prices and videos at www.macsales.com
I installed a new battery and a larger SSD for about 250 USD on my 2012MBP and it runs like new again.
HTH and good luck.
Refurbished mac's are fine.
I bought a Refurbished mac in 2013. It ran fine for 5 years before dying, which seems like a reasonable amount of time for any computer to last. I'm not getting a new Mac but that's because I'm much happier with Windows 10 then I was with Windows 7. I would suggest if you can find a model you like buy refurbished and save a couple hundred dollars.
I have always bought refurbished Macs
I bought my iMac refurbished in 2011 and it is still going strong. After that I have bought refurbished MacBooks for my family. I have had great experience with them. After checking it is not a mere battery issue , I recommend you buy refurbished only from the Apple store.
I hope this helps.
