Help with slideout keyboards for Iphone 6 or 7

All, I have seen several folks post that they use bluetooth, slide out keyboards. I used to use the Boxwave Keyboard Buddy case until I lost my phone. I just bought two replacements from a different manufacturer on Ebay but have a strange question. The Boxwave keyboard automaticly hid the on screen keyboard when it was activated and took advantage of the autocapitalization and features like adding in a period when pressing the space bar twice. With this keyboard, the on screen keyboard doesn't disappear, no autocapitalization is possible, and the period feature doesn't work. Has anyone else experienced this issue and have a work around?
