Using a USB hard drive with the lightning to usb 3 camera adapter?

Hi folks.
Subject says it all.
From what I've read, this should work as long as you use it with the camra kit plugged in to power.
This would be using and iPhone 5S.
I'd hope to use the file browser app, and be able to see the files on the USB hard drive.
