My new app: Blind Cube

Hi all,

I recently started cubing, and while it's fun, I noticed that a lot of cubing utilities aren't accessible with screen readers.

I am mainly talking about Rubik's cube solvers here. In a lot of websites that let you input the cube state, the process is very visual with unlabeled buttons.

Instead of searching forever for an app that may or may not fit my needs, I made my own.

I present to you... blind cube.

Here is where the app can help you:

  • Add your own cubes. You can add your cubes by defining each of the 6 physical stickers.
  • Cube solver. Pick the cube and enter its state. After entering the state and filling all the stickers in all 6 faces, tap solve to get step by step instructions on how to solve it.
  • Cube scrambler. Pick your cube and get a scrambled cube. You can also get step by step moves to reach the intended scrambled cube state.
  • Cube timer. This is just a basic timer to time your solves. It's not advanced or anything.

The app allows you to see how the cube looks like after each step, doesn't matter if you're solving or scrambling the cube. It's good if you want to make sure you made the right exact move and not the opposite.

A couple notes:

  • be very careful when following the steps the app gives you. Use the cube visualizer if you're not confident about the move you made. One wrong move or even a right move but at the wrong orientation can break the solve. As in, you will end up with an unsolved cube, or a cube that's not scrambled correctly to the intended way the scrambler gave you.
  • I did my best to provide clear instructions to know which face is which for beginners, this is because following the steps may seem confusing to some people, If you have feedback about improving that please post about them here.

Get Blind Cube in the Appstore

I originally made this for myself, but it grew to something I thought the Blind cubers community might get some use out of it.

I hope you enjoy the app. I'm looking forward to hear about your experiences or feedback about it.
