Discovery for those with status bar custom gesture issues.

Ok Guys, made a very interesting find regarding those of you who like me have a custom gesture to get to the status bar. As you know for quite a long time this gesture doesn't always work. I now know why. I have no fix but extensive testing has shown that I think I am correct. So, the issue is with certain apps. Which apps I have no way of knowing so for some it maybe different ones. For me the easy reader app caused the issue and at first I thought this could be a media issue. However, I don't think it is as audible did not have the same issue. Basically, if you are in one of these apps as I say for me easy reader then stop playing media and come out the gesture will fail. If you leave the app open then aprox 8 minutes later the gesture will start to work again. If you close the app down then aprox 30/60 seconds later the gesture will work again. Oddly, if you reopen the app before the 8 minutes is up then again the gesture will immediately fail. So, the semi fix is once you are using an app and come out and the gesture fails close that app down and about 1 minute latger you should be up and running again. Then after 10 minutes you can reopen that app and see if it is still working. in easy reader, the only time the gesture failed was after playing media so the fact the app was open still made the gesture work. Hope that made sense and helps someone.

When you say an application is open, do you mean open and active on the screen, or simply open in the application switcher?

First, and completely genuinely, whoever reads this, please don't take this as me calling anything pointless, or making unnecessary comments on how people use iOS.
Ok, so to my actual point here, what are the benefits of having a gesture to get to the status bar? Does it not show up anyway in a lot of apps? Does the gesture allow you to get to it in apps that don't show it?
This is all just harmless curiosity for a feature I've never used, and a gesture I never knew could even be customised to do that!
