Hi! To be honest, there's a zillion apps to listen to police scanners. And some are better than others.
I would not recommend 5-0 radio. I found that to have some issues, mainly the ads that popped up on the screen that Vo. couldn't read or where the buttons to close them were not seen by Vo. so I had to have sighted help closing them.
Now, with that being said, I do have 2 scanner apps that I'd recommend. Full disclosure: I created an app entry for the 1st one.
My favorite app for this is Scanner Radio Deluxe. It is fully accessible, and is easy to use! You have the 10 codes, can find feeds near your location, give alerts for when x amount of listeners are tuned to a feed and more! It does run in portrait mode, and I only point this out because I use my ipad in landscape mode, as I find that easier to work with. But this app is so good, that I really don't care about that! And no ads on it either! At least not where I can see them. You can find my app entry on here about it. I'll try and post a link in the comments.
The 2nd 1 is Broadcastify. It has ads, and a couple other things, like the Ui. being a little tricky to get the hang of at first. But they have a good selection of feeds. And you can browse by country, state, county and feed type (police, Ems., etc.) It also has the find feeds near me and alert settings just like Scanner Radio Deluxe. And both these apps are free to use, which is the best part! But if I had to pick a favorite, Scanner Radio Deluxe takes the cake for me!!
Hope this helps!
This is my entry for this app. You can pay for police scanner apps, but in my opinion, why waste your money if you don't have to! Especially if you can find some really great free choices out there!! Unless you want an app bundle with say a weather radio app, and a police scanner app, then maybe. But I highly suggest you at least try this one! I'll admit, I was like you for a while. I used 5-0 radio, but didn't like it much. So, I weot looking for alternatives. And came across this one by accident. So, I got it decided to try it and thought: `what the heck? It's free` and loved it ever sense. Took me a long time to find it too, but boy am I glad I did!!
