Hi the answer is simple
in order to use custom ringtones the only option is importing from iTunes not matter what platform you use window or Mac.
in this case if you want to use your own music track first you have to edit the audio to the specific format
I think is as M4R or apple ringtone , also don't forget the segnment f the track should be about 32 seconds or less I think this is the new time set for apple I been crated couple ringtones but I never take more then 28 seconds for me is enough time.

In order to edit and convert the song to the Apple format iTunes software for Mac or Windows offered those future I just saw one post on this forum about how to create ringtones using iTunes for MAC, The person who made the podcast describe well all the steps to do it Personally I don’t use this process i use some editing software for Mac.
