Introducing Petal Feed, an Accessible RSS Reader for iPhone, iPad, and Mac

Hi everyone,

I’m excited to share an app I’ve been working on called Petal Feed, which is now available for iPhone and iPad on the App Store.

I’m legally blind myself, so accessibility wasn’t something I added later. It was part of the design from the very beginning. My goal was to build an RSS reader that feels right at home with VoiceOver while also being enjoyable for everyone to use.

Petal Feed lets you follow RSS and Atom feeds, Reddit communities, Bluesky, Mastodon, blogs, and news sites from one app. If you already use Feedbin, FreshRSS, or Inoreader, you can connect your existing account and keep your feeds, folders, and reading progress synchronized across your devices.

One of my favorite features is full article extraction, which removes clutter from supported websites and presents articles in a clean, readable format. On supported devices, Apple Intelligence can also create private, on device summaries of articles and groups of related stories. If you prefer listening, Petal Feed can read articles aloud using the voices already installed on your device, making it easy to catch up on the news while you’re away from the screen.

Accessibility has been one of my highest priorities throughout development. Petal Feed includes extensive VoiceOver support, Dynamic Type, meaningful accessibility labels, custom actions, and article formatting designed to sound natural when spoken aloud.

Petal Feed is a one time purchase with no subscription, no ads, and no tracking.

If you’d like to give it a try, you can download it here:

I’d genuinely love to hear what the AppleVis community thinks. If you decide to try Petal Feed, I’d appreciate any feedback, suggestions, bug reports, or feature requests. AppleVis has been an invaluable resource for me over the years, and I hope Petal Feed becomes an app that many of you enjoy using.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I’m happy to answer any questions.

I use NetNewsWire which is average, I've heard Lyra is very good, is this app compatible comparable it seems to do quite a bit of other things

I used Miniflux, and would appreciate to sync that way. Or, if that's not possible, have ICloud sync so everything stays in sync across devices.

I'm wondering, what features does this one serve which not NetNewsWire does?
And one of my ald time favorite things with NNW is that it's open source 🤘🏾
