We are having trouble with texting on the iPhone. This all started when we upgraded to iOS 12. At first we would get a Message Failed to Send when trying to text certain people. Verizon suggested we turn off iMessage which solved that issue. But now we’re getting each reply twice. We’ve updated to latest version of iOS and still having issues. We’re using Siri to send and read messages. Anyone have ideas how we can fix this??

iPhone Texting
I have not noticed the problems you describe with sending and replying to text mesages on my iPhone 6 running iOS 12.1.1.
What I notice that has changed (and is very frustrating) is that when I use SIRI to reply to a text message sent to a group of people I can no longer simply say (reply to text". Previously when I said "reply to text", SIRI would ask "What do you want to say to the group" and then I could dictate my reply. Now with iOS 12 SIRI asks "who do you want to reply to?" and I must specify each of the people on the original message in order to respond to the entire group. To me this is a step backward.

Getting replies twice
Hi, are you sure you are actually receiving two identical copies of the same message every time? Or is it just two notification readouts for the single message? I need to know whether the message is actually present as two separate conversations in the Messages app, or you just get notified about it twice by VoiceOver. That's a key difference. If it's the former, then I'm afraid I have no solution for you.
Replying to group message
I don't use this feature often and it's been quite some time -- well before iOS 12 -- but I thought you could say to Siri: "Reply to group." Does that not work?
Replying with Siri to group texts
I use Siri to text. And I've recently learned that if you say, "Reply to the group", then Siri will say, "What do you want to say?" and you should be able to say your message then Siri should say something like, "Your message to the group which includes... says..."
Re: Replying to Group
Thanks all for the suggestion to use the phrase "reply to group" in order to reply to a group mesage. I had been saying "reply all" and then SIRI would ask who I wanted to sent the reply to and enter "all" as my response! And I thought this was a *smart* phone!
Anyway, next time I want to reply to such a mesage I'll use the magic word "group" and see if that works!
Thanks again.
