iphone won't restart after update, please help

I updated to ios 7 last night, and it downloaded fine. When it was installing however, it took hours, and still hasn't come back on. i asked for sighted help, and they said it has the apple logo with a bar under it. No one i asked knew what this meant. My phone has been plugged in, and i tried turning voice over on and off, but nothing happens. i don't even know if my phone is on. i tried to connect it to my computer, but my computer acted like the phone was off. I don't know what to do with it. Is it still installing? please help.

Something has Probably crashed. Try restarting it by holding down home + lock buttons for 8 to 10 seconds. The Apple logo should disappear for a moment and then reappear. This forces a restart to the phone.

I just tried the holding down the home and lock. i had someone watch the screen and the apple kept flickering.

what you might want to try and do is plug the phone into your computer, and, hold down the power and home buttons for about 10 seconds. Then, Itunes should pop up with a dialog saying that this phone is in recovery mode and you will have to restore the phone again. Make sure that your stuff is backed up! if not, well, bad luck!

As people said earlier something seems to be crashed. My iphone crashed after an update and I have tested the recovery mode but it doesn't help for me so I had to send it on service.

My wife's iPhone 5s had a similar problem while updating, I had to force recovery mode as described above and restore from iTunes on her Mac - lost some data from some of her apps but got the phone back - if no backup exists you can initialize it to factory mode, and hopefully you were using iCloud for some of the phon'es common features
