Managing Songs in Music on an iDevice

By Homer Dog, 11 March, 2018

iOS and iPadOS

First, I do not subscribe to Apple Music. So, when I refer to Music, I am referring to strictly the Music app with the iOS. I am currently using iOS 11.2.6 with iTunes for Windows version 12.7.3.46. My 16 GB iPhone 6 is full and I have to remove some music to free up space. When I went into my list of songs, I select one andflick down to "Delete" and double tap with no result. Any suggestions welcome!

Hi!!
I went through the same process with my ipad a while back. Now, instead of having all my musice on my device, it's stored in itunes. So, I can stream it. I am also not an apple music member, and I can do this.

Here's how to set it up.

1. Go to your setting app and then select music
2. Go to the downloads heading and swipe to where it says downloaded music and the amount of storage it is.
3. flick down until you hear delete all songs and click that.
4. All your songs will be in itunes so you can stream them. And if you want to download a sog, select it, and it'll be on your device for a few days and get automatically put back in the cloud.
5. Once you've done all that, go to your itunes and app store settings, and switch off automatic downloading of music.
6. From now on, anytime you buy songs off itunes, go into your music app's settings and delete all songs after all your purchases are done loading.

If you want to just get rid of songs indiviually, do the same steps, except go song by song.

Hope this helps & good luck!

Hi,
I currently subscribe to Apple Music and run iTunes on a Mac, so my methods may not transfer to your specific setup...but have you tried selecting and syncing your music from iTunes on your Windows Machine?
With your iDevice connected to your Windows Machine, I expect that iTunes will allow you to backup and sync the device . It is here that you can easily add and remove Music, Movies, iBooks, etc.
That was the easiest method for me to manage the storage, including music, on my iDevices.
