Hello all,
My name is Jeff. I'm blind and a recent convert from Android to iOS. Rapidly losing my vision pushed me to iOS, and it's clearly superior accessibility features.
Kinda feel like I'm drowning a bit with a new device, new OS, new features, etc.
I'm struggling a bit with VoiceOver and hope it's ok to ask a couple of questions about it.
I find myself in an app, and I'm using swipe left & right, but sometimes I seem stuck, and I cheat, turn VoiceOver off just so I can scroll within the app. Is there a way to scroll up and down without using the swipe left & right gestures?
Is there a guide for a neewbie like me to listen to that would improve my VoiceOver usability?
Sincere thanks for your time and help.
Jeff

There was a VoiceOver tutorial on the App Store, but I'm not certain if it is still there. It was simply called VoiceOver Tutorial.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to help me out.
Really appreciate it. I've been listening to the podcasts, I'll have to see how far back they go. I haven't found any so far dealing with VoiceOver.
Thanks again, it's nice to feel welcome around people who know what it's like.
Books
First, you may be confusing flicking and swiping. Flicking is performed with one finger side to side. Swiping is performed with more than one finger. National Braille Press and Jonathan Mosen have produced books on how to use iOS and the iPhone. I used the one from NBP and found it exceptionally valuable. Despite having the books and all the tutorials, it took me about three months to get accustomed to the iOS interface and navigating a touch screen. That’s with at least an hour a day devoted to focused study and practice on my iPhone. I feel highly advanced with adaptive technology so your learning curve might vary.

Thanks Kelly,
I received my device in late December. I'd be pretty thrilled with 3 months. Right now it sure feels like it's going to be longer, but that will pass after time and practice. You're right, I was not aware of the difference between flicking & swiping.
