Seeking tips on how to get the best results from the Seeing AI app

Hi guys. I tried using Seeing AI for the first time last night and I love it! I think it can read printed books and it works amazingly well for products.

I don't have a lot of experience using the camera so does anyone have any tips for maximizing results? I noticed it had trouble recognizing some of the letters in the cookbook I was scanning. Should I have the book lying on any particular surface? And do I really have to hold the Iphone pretty high above the page for it to capture?

I have read that a black background is best.
They suggested a black scarf so you could take it anywhere.
Using an ipad the app has not really shown me much, but a black background and better lighting may help.

Thanks. I haven't tried it with my Ipad, only my husband's Iphone. The Iphone is easier to use because it is a bit smaller.

Yesterday I was using seeing a i in document mode to read a letter. It wasn't working ubtil I moved the letter from a very busily patterned granite countertop to the surface of an all black range top. I immediately had good results.
