Hello everyone, I don’t know if it is just me, but I am facing a very serious accessibility issue. Usually voiceover s detect language feature had worked for me very well, but now it is not working. Even when I added the voice for the particular language.
For example, I have English India and Hindi India added in the rotor.
Usually it detectedlanguages automatically and spoke in it accordingly, but now, it’s no longer working.
What could be the reason, the detect language feature is turned on invoice over speech, please help.

A possible solution
Hi,
Below is a series of steps for you to try. It may be a little time-consuming, but it may also help fix your problem. No guarantees though, this is iOS, after all. 🙄
1. Go to Settings, Accessibility, Spoken Content. Make sure, Detect Languages, is turned on. Note that in iOS 26 Spoken Content may be labeled differently.
2. Go to Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, Speech, and make sure, Detect Languages, is turned on.
3. If either of those are turned off, turn them on, and reboot your iPhone (This is important).
3b. If both are already turned on, turned them both off, reboot your phone. When your phone reboot, go to both settings and turn them back on, and reboot your phone again. Rebooting the device is a very important step to ensure settings take affect.
4. Add another language, either as a primary VoiceOver language, or as a Rotor language. Make sure it's a language you understand, and then go to a website that supports that language, and navigate around and see if the Detect Languages function is working properly.
5. Optional step. Reset VoiceOver settings. Sometimes when all else fails with VoiceOver, resetting to the default settings will usually fix it. Only available in iOS 26 and later.

I have tried. I mean, I have not tried rebooting my phone. I will try that. Thank you.

Also a tip for you. You can reboot using Siri. Just activate Siri and say reboot or reboot this device. Siri will ask if you're sure. Just say yes, and your iPhone will reboot automagically. 🧙♂️
Spoken content is now called reading speak FYI
Just a little FYI here, and iOS 26 in Accessibility setting does not label it as read and speak. It is no longer called spoken content. I have no idea why they changed this label but they is. Also, the language detection feature has never really worked properly for me. It seems to not make any difference for me if it’s turned on or off it still switches languages anyway. I haven’t turned on though. I don’t use my phone the other language in English, but I’m just saying that there’s been some weird things going on with that feature for a while. I hope the steps in the other comments have helped though and hopefully this will be working for you. I have the same issue on my iPhone 15 and my iPhone SE and they’re both running the latest iOS which is 26.6 at this time of this comment.

Thanks a lot all of you. I have read all your comments and did what you all said. I don’t know. Anyhow it is fixed. I tried turning off the detect language in both areas, but I did not work. I restarted my phone and reset VoiceOver settings, so I don’t know what worked anyhow, it is fixed now. Thanks a lot to all of you.
I think resetting the VoiceOver settings helped or rebooting the phone. I have no idea any why did it simultaneously so…

Resetting the VoiceOver settings usually fixes a lot of weird issues. I’m glad that it’s finally a feature. We didn’t even get that available for the iPhones until iOS 26. I didn’t even know that was a feature as I’ve never had any other Apple devices than a phone or an iPad. Is a pretty cool feature though. I’m glad your problem was fixed. That’s awesome.

Ironically, iOS 26 is when iPhones first got the ability to reset VoiceOver settings. macOS, has been doing this for years. Go figure. 🙄
