sonar islands and keyboard help

Hello to all. I am back into sonar islands at least for now. I love the game however I'm having serious issues wiht the keyboard when typing with my tribe. It appears to use its own direct touch interface as explained below.
Characters are spoken wrong , such as “capshial” for “capital”, and button placement often feels inaccurate. I would prefer to use the standard keyboard; however, the help documentation appears to be out of date, which has made it difficult to find clear guidance.
If anyone has any InSite it would be much appreciated.
