hey guys.
I've recently returned to using my iPhone (standard 13 running the latest iOS 17) as my primary device. equivalent to taking photos and videos for sighted users, I always love to audio-record some moments, like when I am traveling, etc., but I'm noticing a strange quality issue when recording with my phone.
First, the balance of the stereo field is a bit off, like it could capture further to the right but not the left.
Second, I am aware there is, of course, some limit to how wide the stereo field the phone could capture, but in the case of my phone, it is really narrow—even narrower than the stereo field of my Samsung phone. So if I move away a little bit to the left or right, my voice will sound like it is coming from the center, so I have to speak really close to the phone. The same can be said when trying to record environmental sounds; something that came from the left will sound like it is in the middle of the recording result. If a car in front of me passes by straight from the left to the right, my Samsung phone would still be able to capture that movement, but not my iPhone; the car sound will be just in the center. If you guys are curious, perhaps I can try to record something with both phones for comparison.
The third will be the overall quality of the result. It's not terrible, but kind of bad, I can say. It sounded compressed, like there was a noise cancellation in play; this is not happening if I record in mono, however. Do you guys have a similar issue? especially for those who are using the iPhone 13?
For the software, I used the iPhone's video recording to test out the stereo audio result, as well as this app called Stereo Audio Recorder. Perhaps there is another free piece of software that can do better stereo recording?
Thank you in advance.

have you tried tape it?
give a shot, they clames to provide high quality recording
tape it
Hey there, I took a 1-week free trial on tape it. The quality of the recording is so much better, but it still has the narrow stereo field issue. thank you for responding though.
Alon Dictaphone
It lets you tweak the stereo field a bit. I recommend you to try it.
couldn't purchase it.
Hey there. saddly that one is paid, and I cannot purchase it for now. I will add it to my wishlist, however.
The only thing I need to know is, is this normal? or it is just the issue on my phone? can someone try to record something in stereo and listen how wide your stereo field is? move a bit far from your phone to the left and right and tell me the result.
