Strange behavior in messages after update

By Deborah Armstrong, 11 June, 2022

iOS and iPadOS

After the latest update, my messages app has gotten really strange. It is full of unlabeled buttons and when I open a message, I have buttons for all sorts of things like Papa Johns that isn't even available in my area. I notice that sometimes these buttons hide the Send button.
I really want all this clutter to disappear so I have the edit field and the send button on my screen only. I don't care about stickers and all the extra eye-candy one can attach to a message. How do I make it go away?

Sounds like you might've activated the apps button that shows apps that can be used in iMessage conversations. The apps button is usually just to the left of the text field. Double tap it and it should hide all the buttons for the apps, leaving just the text field and the send button at the bottom of the screen.

Hope that makes sense.
