I bought a new iPhone directly from Apple and got it in last night. The first thing I noticed is much of the time Voiceover would not get off the language screen which also showed the imei and all of that stuff. My wife could get further without voiceover, but no matter what we did, the data transfer would never finish. I suppose I might be able to back the old phone up to the computer and restore to the new one, but the first issue makes me wonder if something is really messed up, so I am going to send it back and hope that a future software version or a different unit will fix the madness. Three hours of this was enough.

RC
You might check the RC of iOS 26.1. It will be the public version for next week.
Good idea on the RC.
I just don't know if I want to wait and maybe find out that the problem is with the device. When i got it it had 26.0, and we got it to update to 26.01 with no improvement.
As someone who's been deep into computers for 35 years, I really don't like it when something kicks my behind so thoroughly.
A suggestion.
You could bring the phone to the Verizon store or whoever is your carrier. They could take a look at it.
I have an idea
Since your intent is to transfer everything from the old device to the new, why don't you just setup your 17 Pro as a new device, with factory settings intact, once everything is set up. Restore from a back up? This should restore your contacts, emails, photos (if that's your thing), applications, etc., etc., and so forth.
Just an idea. 😃
I had the same issue
17 pro max, I remember trying to transfer for 2 hours but it kept getting stuck on that, I remember it was stuck on something pryvacy, with no continue button or anything, asked a sighted guy and he said there was the same problem, in the end I instead restored from icloud instead of transfering, and it worked.
If I had had only one problem, I'd still be working on it.
Since I had both the messed up Voiceover and the inability to transfer, I decided it best to cut my losses. I could've backed up to my computer, maybe, when that works, though, it takes about three hours.
Hopefully they will get both problems fixed in a future software release. When i pay premium money for a product, I expect a lot better, and I'm only going to give it so much of my life.
