Spring

By Cobbler

100% Spring.

It's very good, has excellent VoiceOver support, and it's still working.

However, I wouldn't be too hasty in jumping ship.

If it's a temporary issue with the API, then the effected apps are likely to be back working soon.

If it's the first signs of Twitter shutting down its API for 3rd party apps, then the apps still working are likely to be shut out soon too.

My guess is that it's a bug, and that the person capable of fixing it quickly was one of those fired last year 🤷

Thank you, hopefully it’s just a temporary thing with Twitterrific, but might give spring a go

The twitter app isn't bad either

You can try that, you can use the "magic" tap to compose a tweet which is easier then finding the compose button.

I hope it's a bug but with this many hours passed with no communication from Twitter about the status it does make me wonder....

I just noticed this today

Hi, for me twitterrific was working great until today, it was weird when I found out that it ask me to sign in with twitter and nothing happens since then.
I'm affected, loved to have news from twitter but I hate the native app.

think third party clients might be a thing of the past

By treky fan

I'm sad to say this, but I think that using third party clients to access twitter might be a thing of the past. Yesterday, when trying to post a tweet, I Noticed that spring couldn't post the tweet, even though it was able to get tweets. From what I've heard over the last couple days, twitter did this move intentionally, and it isn't a bug.

Third-party clients will be going

I hate to sound negative here but I think third-party Twitter clients will be a thing of the past as stated with the comment above.
The turd in charge of Twitter dislikes third-party clients immensely because they do not show ads from the algorithms. This is why they want people to use their own client which although usable is not that brilliant.
Even spring which has been one of the most stable throughout this whole nightmarish time is starting to get a bit flaky now.

Might be intentional

It looks like some internal messages allegedly point to this being intentional https://techcrunch.com/2023/01/16/twitters-third-party-client-issue-is-seemingly-a-deliberate-suspension/

Either way, Musky Wusky isn't talking, so we're gonna have to slog with the official client for a while.

The Tweetbot guys tried using a new API key but that got killed again pretty quickly.

3rd-party clients are dead

By Jenna Pepper

It's official. Twitter have effectively banned 3rd-party clients. https://www.droid-life.com/2023/01/19/twitter-changes-developer-terms-and-bans-3rd-party-clients/

Twitterific is also officially discontinued. https://blog.iconfactory.com/2023/01/twitterrific-end-of-an-era/

First they fired the accessibility team. Now this. Elon Musk is a capricious, asinine child who deserves every bit of criticism thrown his way. That's hundreds of people's livelihoods destroyed literally overnight because he has no idea what the hell he's doing. I try to bite back my harsher diction here, but this is inexcusable.

I checked and to much work. Twitter was easy.

Mastodon isn't as confusing as it first seems. With apps like Metatext, TweeseCake, and web apps like Pinafore, it's quite accessible with a little bit of learning. Bonus is that there are no elongated muskets there. You can pick your home like meow.social. Basically think of it like instances of Mastodon customized for communities that can interact with all of the other Mastodon instances hosted elsewhere. Your username will resemble an email address now, rather than just a handle.

Twitter is able to be used

You don't have to settle for the default way Twitter displays its tweets. Set up various lists to make sure the topics and/or people you want to see show up. For example, I have friends, must see, Charlotte, and a few others I use to keep track of what I want and not have the Twitter app do it for me. The silver lining here is there are no ads in the lists view. You get there by double tapping the menu at the top left corner.

I am hoping to figure out Mastodon and will go with that. This is nuts. All those devs that is effected.

API discontinued

By HEXAGON

1 week 5 days ago

Yesterday or so I read that the API has been officially discontinued. For this reason, all 3rd party Twitter clients will stop working - so the one client you'll be able to use in the near future is the native Twitter app on iOS and macOS. Otherwise, you have to use the web page.

Well, if I'm forced to use the webpage on Windows, I'll ditch Twitter immediately despite its consequences and damages. Apparently it doesn't have a client for Windows or I haven't seen it. The webpage idea is downright rude on their part. TW Blue is still functional, but it shouldn't last long.

Is time to say adios to it. I deleted my account in December. Anyone has 20 billion so I can purchase twitter. By the time Muks finish with it it would be about that price.

Hi Amir. There is a twitter app you can get from the Microsoft store for windows, but I'd highly advise steering clear of it. I got it a few months ago just to check it out and promptly removed it from my pc. The app is a disaster to navigate just like the twitter website.

Mastodon is a little clunky to set up, but once you do it feels like Twitter (to me anyway). I'd be happy to try and help if someone has trouble getting started.

@ treky fan Thanks. That was also my guess. So as soon as TW Blue is gone on Windows, I'll be done with Twitter for good as the web interface isn't for me.

Mastodon

By HEXAGON

1 week 5 days ago

I registered myself at mastodon.social in November last year and the one thing that is completely different is the approach with independent instances. So you have not one Mastodon like one Twitter, you have different instances that you can choose from. Therefore, I understand that some people might find Mastodon clunky at the beginning, but overall it's very user-friendly after you took that hurdle. For the classic twitter feeling, I'd recommend you the Metatext client for iOS. It works reliably and is extremely accessible with VoiceOver.
