Unable to Receive Specific Push Notifications on Facebook for iOS

By Niall Gallagher, 21 October, 2015

iOS and iPadOS

Hi All,

I have recently noticed that I am unable to receive push notifications for Timeline Posts, Group Posts and Comments and Activity I Have Missed.
I have consulted the mobile notifications setting in the Facebook for iOS app, but the check boxes for the mentioned notifications refuse to remain ticked.

I have gotten confirmation from a sighted individual that the check boxes are ticking, but as soon as the settings are automatically saved, the check boxes return to being unticked.
I have tried countless methods to try and resolve this, including logging into another iOS device I have never used before, uninstalling Facebook, rebooting my iOS device, and even deactivating my Facebook account.

If anyone else has this problem I would be grateful if you could let me know if you have found a fix, and/or how long have you experienced the problem.

I'm crossing my fingers the next update will fix the issue described.

Kind regards,
Niall

Had the same problem since

Had the same problem since IOS7 I think. Doesn't seem to have anything to do with whether the boxes are unchecked or not. It's iDevice wide. It's a problem across 3 out of the 4 of my devices and I've not had any luck fixing it. I've learned to live with it lol. Just like I've learned to live with countless other things Apple keeps breaking every time they update, ... or ... so they claim they're "updating" things. The device it does not apply to is an iPod 3G.

Potential Fixes

I think this might work for you. I fix this issue with the following steps:

1.Head into your Facebook app and click on account settings, click on the apps button and turn all platforms off.
2.Close the app in your multitask by double clicking your home button and closing the app from there. 3.Get someone send you a test and bam.... Notifications.
4.Head back into your settings and turn platforms back on.
5.Your apps will be gone but I'm sure you can reconnect them when you use them again.

Hi Fiona,

Thank you very much for your suggestion.
I performed the outlined steps, but the problem persists.

I am genuinely delighted if has reset my apps though, I had 54 approved which I never use.

Kind regards,
Niall

I have had this problem since right before upgrading to iOS9. I am not receiving a lot of comments, and group posts. All of my settings are enabled. I too have turned my platforms off, and still no luck.
