VoiceOver not reading emoji in text areas

iOS and iPadOS

I'm running iOS 15.1 on an iPhone 10R. When composing an email or text message, or when creating a new note (Notes app), I occasionally want to add an emoji. The emoji shows up in the text area but VoiceOver is not reading what the emoji is. Never had that problem before. May be new with 15.1. Anyone else having this issue? Thanks

Greg

When reading one character at a time, smiles are not read.
But when reading the whole text, everything is fine.
