Voiceover Rotor on iOS

Hi

I'm using iOS 9.3 on my iPhone 5C. I was wondering how VoiceOver chooses the default rotor option. For example, if I were to turn Voiceover off and then on again, and entered a text field, would it default to the first rotor option [as listed in VoiceOver settings], or the characters option, as it is the smallest navigational increment? I want VO to default to words, but am not sure if this is actually possible.
Help appreciated.

I just tried this and it seems like when turning it off and on it saves where you had it. I'm using a 6s with IOS 9.3.1

I've been checking out the rotor on my iPhone 7 and accidentally switched VO off. When I turned it back on the rotor seemed to default to where I had it before, so yes I think this is correct. The rotor is a pretty interesting concept on the iPhone. I'm finding it to be sort of like tapping on somebody's window. I'm still getting the hang of it but it's kinda neat.

I think the main thing that would hold me back from going to Droid would be the lack of a Rotor.

I don't think Android has a rotor, I believe they use a menu system instead.

I'm only going off podcasts so I could be wrong.

You have to draw a capital L on the screen to bring it up, something a lot of blind people apparently have trouble with.

Either that, or it's really picky about how well you do the gesture.
