Hi all,

I installed the Youversion bible app a few days ago, and all I want to do is to read the new version book by book and chapter by chapter in order. Can somebody tell me how to do this? I found buttons for old testament and new testament but when I double-tapped the new testament button I didn't get the list of books I was expecting to get.

The link given is to the same app I downloaded.

The old testament books and new testament books are under the plans tab.

So is there a way in the app to pull up a list of the new testament books and be able to read them in order chapter by chapter? Oh and I also need a good English translation of what I'm reading.

Hi Troy,

Rather than the 'Plans' tab, try the 'Bible' tab. The Bible tab will bring up exactly what you are looking for. At the top of the screen there is a button that will say something like, "Chapter, John 1." If you double-tap on this, there will be options for selecting both the book and chapter. One swipe past the 'Chapter' button is a button that will list the current translation you are reading. The Bible app has all of the major translations from what I can tell and personally I would recommend either the NIV or NLT depending on what is most important to you. You can read each verse by swiping through the screen.

Thanks Michael. I've seen the John 1 button and swiped right from there but I didn't hit the button to see what happens. I will do that.

Hi Troy. If this is still not working for you, you may need to turn the verse picker on. To do that, double tap More, then double tap Settings, then double tap Verse Picker.

Hi,
I made a note. When I read the Bible, there is no indication that the verse has a note. Does anyone know if there is a way to get this to happen?

Hello,
I have been using the YouVersion Bible app for a while now, and I have noticed this as well. I believe this is a bug. However, if it is any help, you can access the notes section by going to the Moore tab at the bottom. From there, click the Notes button. You have the option to view it as either a condensed list or see each note in full from the preview screen. Hope this helps.

Hi Troy. Another thing you can do if you haven't already figured it out is while in the Bible tab, turn on the audio player if it is not already showing at the bottom of the screen. You can then hit the Previous Chapter and Next Chapter. Whether you are listening to the built-in audio player or listening to it via Voice Over or sight reading, the Previous and Next Chapter buttons will still work. This saves you extra steps of having to click on the very top button mentioned earlier after finishing a chapter. If you don't see audio player at the bottom, click on the Audio Settings at the top of the screen.

Hi,
I wonder, is there a way to bookmark a verse or passage of scripture without adding an additional note? Also, it looks as though I have duplicate categories that I previously created, and I’m wondering about trying to clean some of these up but not sure how to do this? I’m wondering if I might need to go on the website with my computer to do this or if these customizations are app-only and not tied to my account?

Hi there,
It used to be a lot easier to bookmark passages. The way that the app had been set up in the past, you used to be able to go through and double tap on each of the passages that you want to bookmark. This is something that I am struggling with right now as well. As for editing old notes, one thing that you could try is going into the Moore tab, accessing the Notes option, and then clicking on the note that you want to manage. From here, there should be a more button that allows you to edit the note or delete it, depending on what you want to do. Hope this helps.

Hi,
I discovered today that if you double tap on the first word of a verse, a context menu comes up and VoiceOver says, “dismiss button”. This context menu will allow you to save/bookmark that particular verse. However, I have found that the only way I can bookmark more than one verse at a time is to go to the Moore tab and double tap “create new”, in order to include a note with the verses I want to book Mark together.
