accessing files from a flash drive on a mac

Good evening. How do you access files that are on a flash drive and read and edit them on a Mac? When I use command shift c, I only see options such as name, kind, size, etc. Also, how do you safely remove a flash drive? Thank you.

Command-shift-c is the right way to go about it. Unless the drive isn't showing up because it's damaged or not connected properly, it should be there when you down arrow. You can also go to Finder's preferences and set external disks to show on the desktop, then check there. To eject a drive, find it and press cmd-e to eject. Once it disappears from the list of drives, it's save to remove it.

How do you set up finders preferences so my flash drive will be on my desktop?

Showing drives on the desktop

To show drives (or disks, if you prefer) on the desktop, press command-comma from within Finder. You should already be in the General tab; just after the toolbar is a series of checkboxes, after the text "show these items on the desktop". Simply check the 'hard disks' box, and close the window with command-w.

Actually I thought you wanted

Actually I thought you wanted external disks not hard disks. There is to me a difference.. I was told in my training there was, but I cannot remember what it was.

Take care.
