Emoji problem

I am currently on ventura but for a while now I seem to not be able to use the faces and smilies and such.
I press control plus command plus space but when I interact with the table I don't seem to be able to navigate and get feedback, neither being able to insert one of them.
What am I missing or is there a bugg that I don't no about?
