first letter navigation is not working as expected on catalina disctop

Hello all:
AM not using my disctop alot, so, do not know if this problem is an old one or what, but
I start using it now, and i found that when i use first letter navigation to go to an item or a short cut, it is not working, do not know, if i should do extra thing inside the view options or what, but it is not always working specially with SHortcuts.
