Getting rid of Search Mine

By honest nan, 3 September, 2019

Forum
macOS and Mac Apps

I downloaded what I thought was a safe version of Flash Player. Well, it also installed Search Mine into Safari. The app forces you to use its search field and takes you to sites that give them hit credits.
The advice I found said to delete Search Mine from the list of apps under preferences. It's not there. Or, I should change my search engine and home page back to the defaults, but I can't find where to do that. My other thought is to uninstall and reinstall Safari. Would that work? Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

go into spotlight, and type in searchmine, or whatever the name is of the thing the app installed. Go deleating the componentsone by one then restart your mac. hope this helps. If you don't want to do this manually, uninstall it with cleanmymac x.

It didn't work.

I typed Search Mine into Spotlight. It showed me the searches I have done using the words but not the app itself. I couldn't delete anything in spotlight. Now what do I do?

Try using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Try using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for your Mac. It's an excellent program that scans your Mac in seconds. The searchmine thing you installed is a threat. Malwarebytes should be able to remove it. This antivirus program will also detect anything else that could have also been installed in Safari and quarantine them as quickly as possible. You can download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from this link: https://www.malwarebytes.com

Also clean my mac

Hi. I hate when that happens. Go find clean my Mac from the ap store. They have done a great job with the accessibility. It's free or I think a one time purchase of I don't remember how much. I use it a lot. I say this because after you get rid of that search with Malware bytes, go use clean my mac, it will find other components you didn't know were there. Good luck.

MalwareBytes just ignored Search Mine. I think I scared it away by changing my search engine and homepage to Google. But Safari still isn't like it used to be. It now opens Google's search page, which I don't like. I want to have the plain search field back where I type an address, hit return, and am taken to that page. Also, I can't find my favorites / bookmarks list.
