Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone here had used the ac version of TeamTalk, and if so, could they be so kind as to give me some assistance with general useage of this application?
Thank You,
Joseph King
Last time I tried Team Talk on the Mac, it didn't work. Specifically, Voiceover would constantly report the app as "busy". I later found out that the app uses a type of interface language that Voiceover does not support, since the language does not properly implement accessibility. Unless this has radically changed, you might simply be unable to run the application. If this is not the problem you are having, can you detail where you are stuck? Thanks.
I wish I could help, but I haven't had any luck with it either.
I know of one person who has said he has had some luck with it, but when I ask how he did it, all I get is... I can't remember. Let me look into that. That was 4 months ago.
it doesn't make sence why they have made the windows version accessible, and the mac version just the opiset. Maybe it is still a hold over from when most, or at least a bunch of us were using windows. Anyway, That's what I know.
I can run the app just fine, but voice over reports every single elliment as unknown, including those in the connection and preferences dialogues. It's very blah and I wish it could be fixed.
If you're on mountain Lion or older, check the "enable access for universal devices" box in system preferences>accessibility. On mavericks, run Teamtalk once, then close it, and go to system preferences, security and privacy, then the privacy tab, then accessibility in the first table. Unlock the settings with the lock button, and then go to the table with the different apps and check the box for Teamtalk. After that, the app will be more usable. This applies for any app that is made with the QT interface toolkit, provided the developer put in the required plugins. Funnily enough this also includes all of the team talk alternatives like ventrillo and Teamspeak.
Anyway, now you should be able to see what control does what, but it still has some issues. The app will crash if you navigate through the dialogs too quickly, for one. Also, some controls aren't fully accessible - the tree that shows all the channels and people in them doesn't read, ditto for the chat, also the sliders don't tell you their current value. you will also need to tab away and back to any pop up button to see if you changed its value. Apart from that, team talk can be used, it's just a bit of a pain. Teamspeak is a bit more usable and also happens to have mobile clients both for iOS and Android, but sadly I don't see most blind people switching any time soon as Teamtalk is more accessible on the Windows side.
To get TeamTalk working under Mavericks at least, go to system preferences, security and privacy, move to the privacy tab and under the services table, select accessibility. Tab from there and you'l see a table with apps that support this feature, which is very few. Skype and TeamTalk are the only apps I have installed that work under here. So if you have Skype installed, in this table there will be a checkbox and it should be checked. If not and you've just installed TT, TeamTalk won't be checked. Check the box, close the dialogue and reopen the app. Start tabbing around and notice a difference.
HTH.
I have found that the menu bar does work. At least that. The rest of the application just says on known. Even the preferences. I do not know if you can connect to a server by importing A ttk file. Even if you wanted to do that just to connect to the server, it would basically require the Windows version to even get the file.
Comments
Does it even work?
No Luck Either
I can run the application, but...
What you need to do
TT accessibility
gotcha
I agree
